---Halo: Fall Of Reach spoilers? :P----

I really can't see Bungie throwing us into the battle on Reach without some back-story for those who haven't read the book.

I've read it, I just don't think it'd be like Bungie to confuse people -on a sequel no-less.

My guess is that we'll see some other battle (perhaps Cote de Azure on Sigma Octanus IV) before Bungie displays Reach as the large, important, ship-building, rally-point that it is. Reach was important, the center of the Halo universe - Spartans were trained there, the UNSC got it's ships from there, Keyes first captained from there, Cortana was made there, most of the Spartans were killed there, it was the last planet the Pillar of Autumn saw, and it represented the Covenant being at Earth's doorstep.

Hopefully Bungie will stick with the same storyline Eric Nylund wrote about. It may not be perfectly unpredictable, and the plot was a bit of a downer (when not supplemented with First Strike conclusions), but it still was good.

I trust Bungie a lot with whatever interpretation they choose to go with, but I hope they'll keep some things in mind.

Thoughts, anyone?

Naturally. The Covenant war was what? 30, 20 years old by the battle of reach? Plenty of places Bungie can go to make epic fire fights that we have to play through on campaign, which may yield equally awesome multiplayer levels.

I disagree with the overall way you look at game canon. It's not that Bungie follows what an author wrote in a book, it's that Halo: Reach is the manifestation of a certain part of Halo's story, which is independent of video games, book, authors, Bungie, etc.

Now, it's not all that straightforward, someone has to actually make a game out of it, and that's Bungie's job. But it's not like they can just do whatever they want. There is an existing story, and whatever Halo: Reach does it will tell it in more detail, elaborate on related aspects, tell a different story, or most likely a combination of all those.

So, excluding all the books, Bungie would be creating a videogame off Cortana's Halo 1 phrase "As for tracking us all the way from Reach, at light speed my maneuvering options were limited." That being the only time the planet Reach has ever been said.

I understand that Bungie isn't in charge of sticking to the books, but they do respect the book's content. The last thing they want is to make the game completely different from the book, they don't want to make the game's struggle for Reach a success story.

Surely you can agree with that.

-Something's not right, the Fleet that destroyed Reach was fifty times this size...-
Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood.

Also; Bungie will stick by what's written in the books, they aren't stupid enough to break consistency... there's a guy at Microsoft, Frankie, who gets to decide the go-ahead on games. Or so they say.

damn, missed one. D:

Wasn't it 15 ships that followed Regret? Looks like Bungie is involving 750 Covenant cruisers in Halo Reach, hahaha

Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

I agree, while they may not adhere 100% to everything from the novel (an impossibility when changing media types) they will not ignore canon set in the books. After all The Fall of Reach is written as an official prequal to Halo CE.

I would expect and am hoping for earlier engagments or some type of introduction to the history behind the climax of the novel.

[As of October 2012]
2013 ADFA Officer Cadet of the RAAF (Aerospace Engineer Electronics Officer).

I think that we probably won't need backstory, the story would just be simple enough for people to get an idea of what they're doing whilst feeding us background info.

All the battle in the book are enough to make a good sized game plus there's room for Bungie to surprise us for example with the battle at the MAC-cannon-powering fusion plants as they never really described the area.

I don't really see what is necessary to know. They'd just have to establish the idea that you're on reach (which wouldn't be hard) and that it's military occupied (not hard again). I'm feeling an opening similar to Halo 2's as far as setting goes, more so referencing the outside parts, but perhaps bubbled in?

Keyes first captained from there, Untrue. it was the last planet the Pillar of Autumn saw,
Untrue.

I lead The Skull Heads to victory!

They need to be careful with who they put in the story line and when because there is a posibility of playing as more than one charecter because there was what 30 spartons there until it was glassed and who knows readers of the books may find out what happened to linda.
