HELL NO!

This thread is here to discuss, some of the quirks(wc) of Halo 3 ODST. We can all agree its a great game. The Halo 2** pistol is back, with a scope, and suppressor. The SMG has the same sexy upgrades also. The addition of urban guerrilla warfare, and a choice/switch of DA, and 'choosing your battle's' combat also make it kick awesome. We have the VISR with its 'need to know info' capabilities, and other many more interesting features we will find out closer we get to the game, and finally when we play it for ourselves.

**The M6C/SOCOM's rate of fire is identical to Halo 2's pistol, plus its not doing automatic fire. Granted it probably is auto, but for game purposes we don't get to use that feature. (i think i just contradicted myself lul)

The quirks: We can all agree that ODST's are pretty strong. Stronger than your average soldier. We can also agree that they are not nearly as strong as a Spartan, whether or not he/she is sporting the ever so powerful and majestic MJOLNIR. Which begs to question; why can we as ODST's in this game carry around turrets, when a spartan even has trouble(balance issues set aside). Think about it. We can't dual wield anything, not even pistols, but we can sport a a 100~200 pound .50 cal machine gun turret.

As for health. Their is a video on gametrailers.com that shows the Rookie getting stuck with our friend, the sticky blue ball of fun and joy...and he lives. Now my first thought was WTF he should be dead, we die, and we have freakin MJOLNIR! But then I thought, well since its a press conference, bungie probably increased health or somethin, to alter grenades or somethin.

Jump height also seems pretty consistent with the height of a spartan jump. I figure ODST's carry 50~100 pounds of equipment. So physically that should not be possible. Running speed I'm pretty content. They have strong legs. Jump height depends on strong abdominal muscles, not so much leg muscles.

And i think we all agree we are all sad about the our beloved BR55 not being implemented to the campaign. But think about it. ODST's mostly in this environment are going to concentrate on stealth, and DA/guerrilla fighting stiles, so not trying to be harsh, suck it up.

Now these quirks don't change my opinion of the awesome factor of this game, nor am I complaining/whining about it. Maybe its how I am, but its a valid question. It could just be to implement balance, but balance is needed more for multiplayer, rather than campaign.

Agree/disagree with me I don't care, I just needed to get this out, and just ask a legitimate question, to lead to a legitimate discussion.

P.S., sorry about the wall.

Halo CE was not automatic, all of the weapons continue to fire if the trigger is held in Halo 1. Shotgun, sniper, everything.

Actually, your right, ill change that, Still the rate or fir, and style is halo 2, plus automatic means hold down=continuous fire, which the M6C/SOCOM does not apparently do to my knowledge.

All game demos have infinite health, usually. This is just for presentation purposes.

I think that the ODST's lack of shields and ect. will make the game more challenging and force me to change my strategy. I think it will be a EPIC WIN!

and that's what i thought, at second. but if that was the case, it would be pretty weird to say the least.:)

Ya, it's really gonna be hard for me, because i have a 'kill anything that moves' mentality. but we don't have the ammo to necessarily do that. at least not with human weapons, which is all im gonna use the first time around. its gonna be like a pick your battles/don't fire less fired upon situations, if you are like me and wanna play only with the smg and magnum once and while.

but we can sport a a 100~200 pound .50 cal machine gun turret.

I can recall a part from Halo: First Strike where Sgt. Johnson was having trouble with an Arc Welder. The damn thing was so heavy that he couldn't even lift it, instead he was dragging it across and then to hurry things up the Master Chief effortlessly picked the Arc Welder up with one hand.

Also; I think the book mentioned it's weight around 200 pounds.

Now, using my powers of deduction, I can deduce that the Halo 3 turret either A) Weighs more then 200pounds due to Master being capable of lifting 200 pounds easily with one arm, or B) For gameplay reasons you can't run around easily at full speed due to gameplay reasons.

Take 'A' into account, and ODSTs in Halo 3:ODST shouldn't be allowed pick the gun up, let alone run around with ease while holding it.

Take 'B' into account and ODSTs are capable of carrying it due to gameplay and balancing reasons but to people who understand the gameplay of Halo 3 it will be pretty weird when this ODST guy is able to carry this turret around with ease when Master Chief was having a hard time with it in Halo 3.

I'm starting to take a more relaxed stance against this turret thing.

i agree with your final statement, after talking about it, and pondering gameplay issues, your start to relax about the quirks more, but to those, like me , and maybe you, who follow story, and common sence to much, this nags at us.

"Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Play nice."

For the last time its TURRETS not TORRENTS. A TORRENT is either a peer to peer file sharing protocol or a violently fast stream of water. A TURRET is a self-contained weapons platform housing guns and capable of rotation. And TURRENT isn't even a word.

If it looked more like the Halo 2 turrets I could see them carrying it. Those things actually looked pretty small, and Johnson carried one on Ciro station pretty easily. It wouldn't be to hard to carry one of those around. Maybe these turrets are meant to be the like the Halo 2 turrets, which marines were capable of moving. Without the base they would be much lighter. A sufficiently strong marine could heft one around. They should be a lot slower though.

the only way i would see that happening, was if it was a 30 cal, which i think it was in halo 2, not sure. but people can actually pick up 30's but 50's are near impossible alone, especially the way Johnson had it. now if its titanium, than its different.

Halo 3 Sonnet

We are the Bungie community, and thus, by definition, we are given the right to complain about any work that Bungie produces, mentions, or even thinks about, with no limits set by knowledge, logic, common sense, or understanding of sarcasm!

Well than either your copy or my copy of Halo CE is screwed up. Or your memory.

You have no idea how hard it might be to fire 2 pistols in real life, especially put that this game is set 500 years into the future, who knows? I have one other thing to say, ITS JUST A GAME. You guys can't stop complaining when Bungie is working there asses off to make us a great game.
