i can has cheez its?

From all I've seen, Elites are not featured in either the Campaign or Firefight mode. WHY?? I was looking forward to pwnin some elites with my shiny automag! Why aren't they being included? The schism of the Covenant hasn't occurred yet, and their appearance would be canon...

Why weren't they included..? :(

Who else wanted to pwn some elites?

Thank God for that. Holycrap no more Halo 2 Elites on Legendary kthxbai, do you know how INSANELY hard it is to even take down an Ultra without a plasma pistol? Leave the Elites for the Master Chief and let the Rookie take on some easy targets...

Ridiculous! That doesn't make any sense... The prophet just decides to leave behind a veritable army of Brutes as well as lower-caste warriors...

I loved that part. It made you think how to use the weapons you had to take down your enemy rather than pray and spray. It actually required STRATEGY. Its not a word often associated with Halo.

Cry me a river, build me a bridge, and get over it. Bungie decides the canon. It's not like the schism occured at some exact moment in time, and the elites were all instantaneously replaced. The prophets were planning on putting brutes in charge for a long time. I guess Regret thought it a good idea to deploy brutes inside New Mombasa, insead of Elites.

The schism did take place at a certain point of time. It occurred at the Changing of the Guard, during the battles over Delta Halo. There was infighting up to that point, but that didn't mean that civil war was occurring on the ground. The units just didn't like to work together. It would make more sense to have some pockets of elites and brutes on the ground...

sorry for being the out of place noob here but what i fact is canon. like i said i am genuinely sorry. this happens just a few weeks before halo 3. it is after halo 2 and the brutes are now the military hierarchy and the elites have seperated from the covenant.

sorry.

Was playing Halo 2 on Legendary, didn't expect them to be so strong after fighting Halo 3's easy Brutes.

Off-topic, but worth mentioning, the best strategy I've used so far in Halo2Legendary was when there where two Elites hugging back at the bomb on the first level, a Major (eek) and an Ulta (eeeee-blam!-...). I had just finished off the other twenty Elites in the room and I didn't have a plasma pistol, all outta juice. I charged forward towards the Major who was holding duel needlers, which thankfully are easy enough to dodge. I use the Major as a shield between me and the Ultra, which thankfully stopped him from peppering me with plasma bolts.

I melee'd the Major which stunned him and stopped him from hitting me while still using him as a shield. After 4 melees he died, Ultra when a bit mad (thankfully instead of taking the easy road and killing me in 4 shots with dual-plasmas), I retreated and took him down with ease.

Ah, satisfaction flowed. :DDD

Dude, I've been having a similar experience with Halo CE. I'm playing Legendary on the level Halo, and I stupidly got to this checkpoint, where I'm stuck in a building and there is a stealth-ops elite and a minor taking shots at me, and I had foolishly forgotten to grab a plasma pistol/rifle or needler. :( .... Hard.

If this happened AFTER Halo 2, we wouldn't be able to see Regret's carrier go slipspace in New Mombasa could we?

  • 06.05.2009 8:27 PM PDT

but bungie stated this takes place a few weeks before halo 3 and that it is imbetween halo 3 and halo 2. looks like bungie made a time paradox.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Back to Halo 3 multiplayer for you, boy.
Sorry you're disappointed.

All I ask is that you don't try to capture me.

It's called taking the easy way out.

Bungie didn't wanna rewrite thousands of lines of combat dialogue for enemy Elites, or make a convoluted alien-centric plot to contain the story of the Covenant schism. Alien politics were left to Halo 2, and they wanted to make a game about helljumpers. Plus, Elites are twice as hard to kill as brute packs. Just try and automag one to death.

Thus, we get dumb Brutes to fill with holes.

Define what you think is strategy.

Uh, I'm pretty sure Bungie is open to it's fanbase questioning it's movements so long as that complaining is supplied with constructive criticism and not an endless list of threads saying "bungie why wont u fix BRR!?!?!11"

Want a strategic challenge? Grab the I Would Have Been Your Daddy skull in Halo 2. Have fun suffering as you struggle through seven waves of Ultra Elites, no weapons to your name beyond a Plasma Pistol and what you can retrieve from your enemies. I did it once. I got a checkpoint, which I still have to this day.

Anyway, yeah. Elites were swapped out. It actually gives an important detail about the story. We are led to believe that it was the death of the Prophet of Regret that triggered the Hierarchs' decision to place the Brutes in the main strategist and warrior roles. However, Truth was playing the political minefield; he "set up" Regret's death -- or perhaps simply benefitted from it, allowing him to hold his hand for a bit longer -- and had Brutes on the field before Regret was probably even out of slipspace.

That clever Truth. He didn't factor that the Master Chief doesn't lose, though. His one mistake.

Bungie.net is the place to be!

Amidst the snowfall, the cold does little to diminish his wishes to be free. The eagle is chained and has no way of breaking free. No matter how much he flies, he still is chained. The blizzards do nothing to break his determination and in his eyes, he will be freed, someday...

Bad habits are like chains that are too light to feel until they are too heavy to carry

That made me really sad because, it is very true. Screw the Halo 3 Brutes. I remember when they said that the brutes will be more fearsome and all of that in Halo 3. On Legendary, I just toy around with the brutes by just jumping up and down. The stupid creatures can't even attack me when I am two inches above the ground on a Covenant crate. In Halo 2, I was afraid of the Brutes even on Heroic. If you are a beginner, those Brutes hit you 90%+ of the time and killed you instantly. If you are decent or a "pro" they hit you just above half of the time. Also, it took more than five hits to kill one with a needler or plasma rifle. In Halo 3, it takes two hits with any weapons(excluding sword), no matter what difficulty. Also, the Elites were quite a challenge. It took me more than a day to get past the first level of Halo 2 Legendary (24 hours). On Heroic, one hit would kill you instantly. They were also smart enough to dodge you when you try and run them over or stick them. In Halo 3, the Brutes just accept that they will be dead soon and just stand there. Maybe 1/10 of the time they will try and dodge you. They should have Elites in the first level of the game and then they should be replaced by Elites.
