so, if i got this right will the multiplayer in ODST be EXACTLY the same (besides the new maps) or will there be new weapons etc?

Exactly the same, no new weapons, no new nothing. To play Halo 3's multiplayer you play with the second disc.

maybe I'm a bit confused about this too, but as I understand it, ODST's multiplayer will only be co-op campaign and firefight. I don't think you'll be able to, you know, run around on assembly as an ODST or anything like that. Could be wrong though.

I think the maps that come on disc 2 are only for traditional Halo 3 multiplay. Like playing as Spartans and Elites in Slayer, CTF and all that.

You're right, you won't be able to. The additional disc, with the Halo 3 Multiplayer elements, WILL let you run around there, though, but you won't be wearing any armor you'd be wearing in the ODST game.
