Subject: Bungie, don't make the same mistakes you made in halo 3

Dunno, but since they're obviously going to change the weapons, maybe movement speed, etc. it's too hard to say.

Did you ever play Halo 2?

Agree with this thread, except the BR reticule.

what's wrong with reducing the size of the battle rifle's aiming reticle?

I think making the AR more versatile would do the job, and I think BRs are really fun to use because they require skill. Reducing the reticule will still require skill, but I guess its just less fun. Idk.

the main reason for reducing the size of the reticule is to make the battle rifle more difficult to use at close and medium ranges. That way the battle rifle is less of god weapon.

Maybe, but it already looses to the assault rifle in close quarters.

But it seemly never loses at med range. It's effective range should be limited to long range.

I agree. But at the same time I don't want to lol.

BR is the most common weapon to use, but it is also the most common weapon to counter as well. Its fine to me. BR isn't some sort of unstoppable weapon.

  • 06.05.2009 10:26 PM PDT

I think the main problem with the BR is that Bungie fails to recognize that it isn't a generic, standard weapon or at least it shouldn't be in multiplayer. You know, the kind of weapon that isn't too good, isn't too bad, but you can find plenty of them and they are usually UNSC. Battle rifles are almost like power weapons, Bungie makes the mistake of giving them out too freely which causes unbalances.

it is an unstoppable weapon when you spawn in with an assault rifle and you can't get to another weapon before someone finds you.

i think every weapon has a fair chance at certain ranges over eachother close range ar wins far away snipe wins

As much as it was hard to understand, TYTY is exactly right. With the right position, you can clearly take out a BR with an AR. Hell, even with a needler.

Not really. Sniper wins only if you are skillful, it's a lot easier to kill someone with a BR if they have an AR at medium or far range. The real problem is that they are too easy to get. You don't have to earn them by getting to them in certain spots, they are spread everywhere which causes unbalances. Random players get them by chance and the players who don't get them are killed unfairly. This is more of a problem in FFA.

For the most part this true, except that the battle rifle is the exception. battle rifle is effective at both long and short range. Its niche in game play is far larger than the other weapons.

At Short range, the BR absolutely cannot beat AR. Unless the AR somehow misses seconds of bullets.

And usually the BR holder will have an AR that they had before they came across the BR. See. The problem is BRs are placed too frequently and too carelessly.

I just knew that someone would say that, the obvious difference is the fact that the battle rifle is far more abundant and has way more ammo.

  • 06.05.2009 10:45 PM PDT

This is ridiculous an AR beats a BR 9 time out of 10 at close range. The BR wins medium to long range. Also a good BR can win when the playing field goes from mid to close range in the middle of the engagement which makes sense. BR should win at long to mid range, the AR should win at close range and that intermediate mid-close range the result is commonly decided by player skill. The BR in Halo 3 is an excellently balanced weapon. If you think its unbalanced you should see the Halo 2 BR. There's a reason why people whine about the BR spread in Halo 3. The Halo 2 BR was a juggernaut and fans of Halo 2 were disappointed to see that gun get toned down for Halo 3.

Exactly Think people. And what are you talking about narrows for. You still get ARs on Narrows and it's only one map.

Close ranged is like 0-15 meters. Medium to long ranged is 16-infinity meters. You see the problem now?
