I just finished reading that article about those game testers that worked at Bungie. Man! Just think about it for a moment, working for Bungie, making games for a living. That'd be so awesome; actually getting up in the morning and going to a place you _want_ to go and doing something you _want_ to do and get paid for it! I just can't imagine a more perfect job than that.

But how does one get into the gaming industry? You can't just walk up to Bungie Studios, knock on the door with a resume and hope to get a job, You gotta break into it first. But where does one start?

Get a collage degree in Computer Science (that'll help a lot).

It takes more than a degree. It also takes a lot of luck, and a lot of patience.

Everyone wants to be the designer. It's the most sought after position in the game developer hierarchy. As such, your chances of getting such a job by doing anything short of starting your own company are slim to none, unless you already have the experience of being a game designer.

Edit: Sorry, took me a second to find the link. Here you go! =)

Hey Shishka, thanks for the link, it's really given me a lot to think about. I now realise that it might not be the unattainable goal I once thought it was. Right now I'm currently making a 2D RPG written completely in C++, and I'm also helping a friend by making levels for him in for his game he's basing on the Unreal Engine. And I'm also going into my second year in software engineering at the University, so it looks like I'm on the right track so far.

Thanks for helping me get the inside scoop on the subject. I didn't realise that the small things like that made such a difference.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Being a tester boths sucks and is a blessing. It depends on who you work for and what game you're doing. You could get a game like H2 or a game like, "Sweet Cuppin Cakes!". It's all chance. My cousin is a tester for Midway, err... was a while back. He said it was an interesting job but overall sucked. It's not the dream many people think it is.

You can also major in Video game art and design at many schools. I major in video game art and design at AICA SF in san fran. but I have a large latter to climb to make it to designing my own games for money.

That guarantees nothing. And if the best you can do from a game art degree is game testing, you're hurting.
