Subject: Possible solutions to canon inconsistencies

On the forums there's been constant arguments between people who think that ODST puts too much emphasis on gameplay at the expense of canon, and those who think that canon comes second to gameplay. Issues like carrying chainguns, meleeing brutes, bunnyhopping etc have all been pointed out. What seems to me to be the obvious answer is a new skull, designed specifically to bring your abilities more in line with canon. It could disable the recharging vitality, shorten jump height or frequency, make your melee do little or no damage, disable turret carrying, and/or a variety of other things.

I know everyone will say "Bungie has finished the game already" or "Bungie doesn't care about forum discussion". And I realise this is true. I just thought this could have been a neat way to satisfy both parties, and wondered if others agreed.

Video games constantly destroy canon for the sake of gameplay

So why not make it possible to have it both ways?

Halo 2 is pretty true to canon, gameplay wise from campaign, on Legendary. I find.

Taking away things like the bunny hop, and the melee wouldn't really make it Halo anymore. Those are really to Halo signatures. Plus they've been talking about both stamina and health. If your stamina gets too low, then you start to lose health. It's more like Halo 1, except it takes longer for your stamina to regenerate. Making it be purely a health bar wouldn't make for that good of gameplay, since a lot of Halo gameplay is running it at your own risk, not taking cover, and making sure you hit first.

I wish I was still legendary.

Agreed.

I think we can actually say 'legendary mode is true to Canon, other modes aren't.' legendary in ODST will be a pain...

Only problem people seem to have is the turret carrying, which I'm fine with. For one, firefight (where you can carry the turrets) is NOT CANON.

Depending on context, it usually refers to official fact (I think) and/or history/timeline.

Canon means something that is officially accepted as authentic to the game, book, movie, ect. in question. In this case, the Haloverse.

Another thing that bugs me is stamina. If said skull disposed of stamina, I'd be contented by that. And the health bar. Maybe a heartrate meter or something that's less distracting...

But gameplay first, and gameplay does look pretty fun.
