lmao... win i havent played halo 3 in a loong time, but firebomb sure as hell didnt bounce offIf you throw a "Firebomb" at anything it won't bounce off of anything. Zealots would be a victum too.

O come on, leave the poor hairy guys alone. They just want to belong. lol

Anyway, I don't know, I like Brutes, I want to learn more about them, we already know lots about the elites, they get story, interact with you, you learn about who they are and what they do. But what do we get from the brutes? Their badguys thats it. I want to get an important brute again like Tartarus... I think thats how you spell it. Thats what they should have in ODST, a leader brute.

Brutes in halo 3 were not that fun unless there was loads of then together in halo 2 however they were fun to fight on there own especially when they went beserk they could take a hell of alot of damage

  • 07.16.2009 5:17 AM PDT

The Brutes in Halo 2 were actually kinda good, they were strong and reacted to getting shot at and when they berserked they could do quite a bit of damage.

In Halo 3 they sucked, they just stood there until you killed them and even when they berserked they were just a hunched over joke.

If they aren't better in ODST I will break the disc in half and never by a Bungie game again.

I think, to me, the reason between the distinction between Elites and Brutes is Halo 2. Halo 2 was fantastic in the sense that it really fleshed out the Covenant side of the story really well. That's also where they raised the Elites to nearly a god like status and made me look at Brutes as "A-Holes". Seriously. Halo 2 left such a lasting impression in me and I was convinced that Brutes were idiotic sons of -blam!-es. When I saw the extent at which they were trying to change the Brutes in Halo 3, I was pleased but yet, the impression left behind by Halo 2, lingered.

Man is born free but everywhere he is in chains.

Well in ODST I'm sure Brutes will have to be taken down with more strategy, especially on the higher difficulties, and Elites will be back for Halo: Reach.

My troll sense is tingling.

IMO I prefer fighting brutes to Elites. Mainly because I think Elites are awesome.

Ahahaha yes they're easy to kill if you have uber human strength and armor with shield no we're not chief in odst so the brutes will proberly be harder to kill no wait they are harder to kill they said we have to think before we engage them
doubt it, ive seen some halo 3 ODST gameplay, the rookie can take a -blam!- load of damage

brutes= no problem
but il buy the game anyways, cuz i -blam!- luv halo plus i get 3 more maps. but im disappointed :(

All the gameplay any of us have seen was when the difficulty was on easy. I assure you it won't be so "easy" ( see what I did there? ) when you turn up the difficulty.
Actually it wasn't even easy, I'm pretty sure he had invincibility on. If he didn't, if he accidentally died somehow it would make for a poor performance for everyone to see.

I like fighting Brutes. The Brute Shot just rips you on Legendary. Brutes do avoid and take cover, there were just a lot of opportunities in Halo 3 where they weren't yet aware of you.

And you're right, Chieftains aren't like Zealots, they're harder than Zealots. Considering they have invincibility and can jump(I think they also use grenades now and then)

it was on normal. not easy. not heroic. they did normal because easy would make the game seem like it was too... easy.

I do too but that still doesn't mean I don't want to kill them since they take cover more than Brutes. Heck, in Halo: CE, whenever I fight an Elite, it is stubborn and doesn't get out of cover until you flush him out. Brutes, on the other hand, just charged you and stood in one place, as others have said. However, they do show their moments of brightness such as on Tsavo Highway during the defense of the two bases before the end of the mission. The Jump-pack Brutes usually distract you while a infantry unit (Minor/Major/Ultra) or Captain comes around to assault you from behind since your shields are probably already down from fighting the Jump-pack Brutes. If only all the Brutes were like that.

Seriously you are dumb we only saw level 1 not all levels would be going around city's, plus
in halo 3 your a spartan in this Odst which means its harder. Bunige might have also added abit more character to the brutes in this game we wont know until its out so when you've actually played it complain because really you know nothing much about it yet.

  • 07.16.2009 7:27 AM PDT

I don't think there can be a Jiralhanae Chieftain anymore. When Tartarus got pwned the Brutes lost their Chieftain's icon, the Fist of Rukt.(if you have IWHBYD on in H3 you can hear them reference Rukt sometimes.)

And I don't really get scared when a Hammer Chieftain charges me.I can beat them on legendary with 1 SMG.Its kinda funny.

I used to -blam!- my pants when that Zealot on the bridge in AotCR in Halo:CE charges you. They aren't very nice and they can jump really effing high.

Bungie plays on deathless mode you toolbag they dont wanna respawn in front of thousands of people and die and spawn and die.
The playthroughs need to be shown and dying makes the game look bad.

think before you type

Nolan is Nolan.

I'll point out starship troopers here, after reading the rookie was a student. staship troopers shot into my brain, then after reading this. what if the brutes are smarter than we think?

How do you know he's going to just go around killing apes? If you haven't noticed, all of the Halo games befoe this haven't shown what exactly he's going to do in the game. This'll be the same

  • 07.16.2009 7:52 AM PDT

Everyone keeps saying how the elites r so beast! i would rather fight with them than fight against them for all those reasons! I still like the elites better though.

Brutes aren't that interesting to me because I don't sympathize with them. Elites had honour and sense of higher purpose, which I could understand and feel for. Brutes are barbaric servants of the san'shyum (I think that's how it's spelled). I hold no sympathy for them, and that just makes them look like one-dimensional villains to me.

I get what bungie was trying to achieve, but i think they missed the mark with the brutes and all we end up with is a dumb version of an elite with anger management issues. I loved the Halo 2 Concept art for the brutes you did get the feeling that this is a menacing and brutish creature that can match and even defeat the elites and didn't need all that armour.

Halo 3's idea of the brute speices has been completely nerfed in my opinion. I don't like how they're in shielded armour considering the amount of damage they are supposed to be able to take. The introduction of brute armour really takes away the barbaric and brutish feel for the species. Shouldn't they also be taller bigger and bulkier?

In some ways I wish Bungie had left the brutes as they were or at least just evolved them to fit in with the story line. Say if they required armour. maybe they could of scavenged it from any dead elite, unsc, or even hunter bodies. The idea of the changing of the honour guard you see being taken from elites in halo 2 could of been used as part of the main brute armour - if any.

Say the higher up the pack the brute is the more armour it has, which could be kind of the brute chieftain. Also you could see brute stealing armour for each there as they try to fight for their own survival as well as scavenging armour from other dead brutes. The brutes would still have that pack mentality but be willing turn on each other if needs be or to say challenge the current brute leadership, such as happened in contact harvest between Maceabus (can't spell it) and Tartarus.

Brutes are just not as fun to fight as elites.

Fingers crossed there are elites in firefight at least, considering they won't be in ODST's campaign.

Sorry, I can't hear them over the sounds of Modern Warfare 3 on my Turtle Beaches.

I wonder why the Brutes are armored in ODST, shouldn't they be their armorless, Chewbacca-like selves from Halo 2?

  • 07.16.2009 2:59 PM PDT

Ownagee

i kinda like brutes. they come in lots of different shapes and sizes like the golden ones and the hammer guys and the ones that rode in choppers. elites only changed colors, they weren't any stronger or at least didn't seem like it. plus, when im shooting an enemy whether its a brute or an elite i don't see "honor" or "viciousness". who the heck would? both factions or species or whatever are cool. for now ill keep the honor and viciousness for the cutscenes. :)

  • 07.16.2009 3:03 PM PDT

Do you know how hard the game would be if they were Elites? Taking real life canon into this but Elites are 5x better than ODST's
1)They could use camo and have no glowing sword and you would die instantly.
2)Your chances at survival are pretty slim
3)Odst's have stood a chance against Brutes in the past.
4) If the Elites are as good as you say you wouldn't have a chance at survival

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Posted by: Frogwart
I think you're right, Rookie. Reach will probably return the Elites to the enemy spotlight.
It had better.

YOU'RE STILL ALIVE?!?

Well I think if they were Halo 2 Brutes with power armor, they would be a little too hard.
