NY Giants
Miami Heat

Alot of people will disagree with me here but Im going to say this is not the halo 3/ODST engine.
There are alot of holes in my theory but here it goes.

Since this games beta comes with another game, that means the changes are drastic. Otherwise there shipping another few maps of halo 3. But since its different enough to need fan feedback, then its either a new engine or its heavily modified.

That's my observation.

Yar-har!

I wouldn't disagree with you at all. I'm 99% sure that this game uses a new graphics engine, if not an updated version of the engine Halo 3 is running on (which is the updated Halo 2 engine). It's just something completely new.

Nomnomnomomnom

This project was only recently PUBLICALLY ANNOUCED. but howeevr they might have been working on it for a much longer time period already.

I personally hope it's a new engine. The Halo 3 engine just doesn't do a new hlo game justice anymore. (even an updated one)

maybe bungie can give us a hint to what the engine might be?

wow guys. heres some background info.

Ever since halo 1, bungie has used and updated their own, in house, "halo engine".
Oh yeah, and Halo 3 had a multiplayer beta, it came with crackdown, yet there werent any real "drastic" changes. Since its a halo game with the same core gameplay, they will be using the halo engine, but you can count on them updating it.

You better close this sig when your done.

There is no reason to make a new engine. Its hard to explain but these kinds of engines don't need to be completely replaced to be upgraded like real life engines. Its basically made out of all code, and to upgrade it you change the code. Bungie has found something that works great and so they improve on it all the time, if they made a new engine it could take years to write the whole thing and make it better then their existing engine.

I understand where u're coming from, but seriously if the engine is "upgraded" to somethging likeODST's engine it's gonna be VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING

I hope so, and I think so. They've had a full three years to make it. By make a new one, I mean upgrade it heavily. Not like the difference between H3 and ODST, the difference between H1 and H2. (We're still on the same console.)

How dumb can you be. ODST's engine is the exact same engine as halo 3. did you even read my post up there?

Edable - Not to be mistaken with Edible, you cannot eat me unless i am in pie form, which only happens once every 371 years

Bungie stated that they've only ever made two games on the same engine, Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. So i'm guessing they'll follow the trend and make a new engine for a new game.
