Subject: why is there a halo in the trailer? what's the deal?

yeah if you haven't noticed there is a halo in the trailer for halo: reach.

stop it at like 19 seconds and look at the top right around the two planets

anyone care to explain?

EDIT: if you are unsure of what to look at, here is a pic that a member was kind enough to give us.

There is no Halo around either of the planets... Seriously. I have no idea where the heck people are getting this from.

it looks too thin and too much like a halo to really be just a ring around the planet (like saturns rings). You know what, what if halo reach really is in the future where they found multiple more halos and a new enemy was the one that attacked them in the trailer. I will lay claim that i am the person to come up with this theory and if it is true then i get the credit.
Also, nice find on the halo dude.

It's a debris field just like around saturn. It's not that hard to notice the difference really.

Dude, okay, seriously. It's the exact same thing you see around Reach in the trailer. It's just that it's far away, so you can't see it defined as well.

Really. It looks NOTHING like a Halo.

EDIT- AND I'M NOT SAYING THAT THIS COULDN'T BE IN THE FUTURE OR ANYTHING. I'm just saying that it looks NOTHING like a Halo ring, and we already know there's no ring in the Reach system.

Good find, but like others said I think it's just a ring around the bigger planet, much like Saturn

i'm not saying you're wrong, it just that the ring looks to be behind the planet rather than around it.

Its the play of the light on the planet.
And this game has to be in the past.
Reach fell before Halo was even discovered.
And if there was a ring that close wouldn't they have found it?

i know that the game is in the past and all that comes with it, but can't you just agree that the faint ring behind the planet resembles a halo in appearance?

All of that trailer was CG so i don't think bungie would put in a light effect that looks like a halo.

yeah that's what i'm thinking, and i am just as skeptical to think that it actually is a halo as the rest of you, but you have to agree. I mean come on, it does look like a halo and Bungie didn't have to add it (they always do stuff like this and pull our legs or keep us guessing over minute details lol)

That's not sharp enough to be a Halo ring (and there were none even close to Reach), and it's just light reflecting off the surface of the moons.

ODST Romeo

That would be one huge Halo. There weren't any rings close to Reach

And now you go back to the trailer and pause it when it says "From the Beginning, You Know the End"

and let that sink in.

Being a leader comes with a reasonable price. You're expected to Lead those around you to victory, bring them home safely, or, as in most cases, a combination of the two. You must be fearless, yet cautious, and must always keep a level head even in the most dangerous of situations. Name's War. Welcome to the team.

saturn has the same stuff.

1. its way too big to be a halo
2 its probably a ring around one of those planets (like Saturn)

Lunar eclipse ;)?

Nah, it's either just for show or rings, like on saturn.

space tether? anyone here read contact harvest? Its in an ark shape that bends around the planet so my guess is its somthing like a space docking facilty or whatnot. Doubt its a halo. and also everyone just assumes the planet there is reach, exactly what proves that?. As far as im concerned that could be any planet and not nessacarilly reach

I wonder how people felt when they looked up from REACH and said, " hey whats that huge shaped halo object out in space. ah never mind no big."

Well it appears to be a moon of Reach from the distance and the 'halo' itself almost looks like it's not around the planet (it'd have to be a wierd elipsis if it was.

So might it be the Orbital Defence Grid mentioned by the voiceover... ODG might not necessarily be in the orbit of the planet it defends.
