The only reason it was a let down was because Bungie decided to try a new method of making their games. The split everyone up and everyone worked on their own part. The idea was to bring it all together in the end. When they did that the results were horrible. The game was a complete mess. So the scrapped everything and restarted. Not only that, but Bungie had Microsoft breathing down their necks. You can't blame Bungie for trying a new way to create games, it's the only real way to progress; experiment. Obviously that method failed and I'm sure they'll try something else.
As for that video, it was made strictly for E3. It was never going into the full game.
Lastly, Halo 2 was not a failure. If I am correct, it sold more than Halo 3. And I'm pretty sure you spent countless hours playing multiplayer on Live.

2001: Halo combat evolved
2004: Halo 2
2007: Halo 3
2010: Halo reach
The full games which run on a different (new) engine are 3 years apart from each other. Have the previous games ever let you down? I think they haven't!The Halo 2 we know today was developed in about 11 months. This video shows what it was supposed to be like. Halo 2 was a let down, campaign-wise and multiplayer wise.

I have complete faith in Bungie; I don't think they need us telling them to take their time.
