This argument for taking the BR out is kind of....for lack of better word...stupid. The argument basically is "you are taking the most competitive weapon out of Halo". Yeah, assuming it's the most competitive weapon, let's continue. The competitive aspect of Halo 3:ODST that will not feature the BR is Campaign (scoring on) and Firefight. Not every level in Halo 3 had a BR, so I guess those were noob levels, right? So, since there was no argument in Halo 3 campaign levels, I can assume to take that out of the overall complaint umbrella.
Now we are left to think of Firefight. This also has, essentially, campaign scoring built into it. In no way are you being competitive DIRECTLY against other players. In the original campaign scoring with Halo 3 it was more to see who could do the best with what was provided. The BR is not provided, so you have to adapt your gameplay to not rely on a single weapon to be victorious in Firefight. I think that really is where the problem. Too many people have come to rely solely on the BR as a means to get kills. So these people cry about it's disappearance.
Okay, my point really was that there is no direct means of competitive gameplay, therefore the argument that the most competitive weapon does not work considering the current idea of competitive gameplay is not present. The BR is not there, which forces people to be more versatile with their weapon choice, which is the point of Firefight considering the apparent lack of ammunition available during each encounter. You WILL have to get good with every weapon to be able to progress to the later stages. That is all there is to it.
Or we could just throw this entire argument out the window, because really most people won't play Firefight to see who R Teh 1337est. Most people will play it for fun, as it was meant to be played.
EDIT: I love the BR, but I do not view it as the weapon that requires the most skill to use. The only reason people think it requires the most skill is that there is a very large skill gap that comes associated with this weapon. In multi-player a BR in the hands of a truly new player is not nearly as deadly as a BR in the hands of a seasoned veteran. The reason so many BR lovers hate the AR is that it has an inherently smaller skill gap, being a "spray and pray" weapon. They do not like it simply because true noobies can kill them nearly as easily as they can kill the noobie.
