We do, this just isn't funny.

Hello, I was just thinking about the video i saw in which that exact question was asked and that answer was given, now, here is what i think after a bit of thought onthe topic.

Halo 3: ODST takes place on Earth, and we see the ODST's defending the "Oni" building in the first level or two.
Colonel Ackerson created the Spartan III's between 2531-2551 as a quick attempt to replicate the success of the Spartan II's. We all know that Colonel Ackerson used Oni to make these Spartan III's for suicide missions of which the death rate was often 100%, and was trained on Reach by Kurt Ambose, a Spartan-II, and friend of John.

I have seen many theories about DARE killing everyone off and keeping quiet to protect Oni from the secret that they have a live Flood Form in the basement, but I believe her true secret is to keep the Spartan-III project at top-secret classification, otherwise the gained moral from the Spartan-II project would be crushed by the almost 100% KIA status of the Spartan-III's.

I believe there may be a possibility of seeing Spartans in ODST, not John, or any of the Spartan-II's or the teams being trained on Onyx, but the newly Augmented Spartan-III soldiers created by Ackerson deep underground, beneath the Oni building, or possibly even some of the Trained Spartan-III's who left Onyx just before the Battle of Onyx.

Let me know what you think, and feel free to discuss.

Could the Rookie be a Spartan-III in disguise?

The AR is an awesome weapon, RESPECT IT AS SUCH!!!

actually, this is quite a good theory for once!
i like the idea, and since the S-III's dont have MJOLNIR armor, they are just as likely to get killed as an ODST is (apart from the fact that they are faster and stronger)

Didn't all of the S-IIIs die - with the exception of those now in the Shield World - by the beginning of Halo 3:ODST?

I mean, it's always possible that DARE wants to secure the Top-Secret files that ONO are holding; personally I think that's the whole point of this mission. But I think that S-IIIs just so happen to fall into the category are not the specific documents she wants to contain.

No, there's still 285 Spartan -III-'s in Gamma company, they shiped out just before the Battle of Onyx, where they shipped out and their current status is unknown.

Thankyou very much.
When I thought about Oni making Spartan-III's i went back to Ghosts of Onyx and done a bit of research, and from what i canpeice together, my theory is plausible, especially as some Spartan-III's left Onyx on an unknown trajectory.

If this is true, then there are spartans, just not as most would expect. Spartan-III's can fight alongside ODSTs without too much extra advantage, as said before, minus the faster running and slight power increase.

Some left Onyx before it collapsed and the others fled into the Shield World contained within. But those who left Onyx, it was not said where they were heading, and also, theres nothing stopping more Spartan-III's being created inside the oni building during ODST.

No, I wouldn't expect to see any. The story takes place in New Mobassa after the event of Halo 2, if I am correct. By then Master Cheif is the only remaining Spartan. So no, I don't think this would happen. Although a good theory.

Master Chief is not the only remaining Spartan, he's not even the last remaining Spartan-II, as Kurt Ambrose and another Spartan-II helped train the Spartan-III's, and there are over 150 surviving Spartan-III's alive as of the end of the Ghosts of Onyx.
It is very possible that there will be Spartans in ODST, although it will be very unlikely that there will be any Spartan-II's as Master Chief is on Delta Halo, and Kurt and Gamma Team (I think it is) are in the Shield World of Onyx.

As the title of this thread states, the question asked way:

"Can we expect to see Spartans?"

To which Bungies reply was:

small laugh "I cant release that information"

They have never said: There will be no spartans.

Now onto the subject at hand, it would be nice is eveyone read the books but ah no such luck.

I doubt we will see spartans in this game, but not because there are few Spartan II's left. (Master C is not the last one btw).

[EDIT-1]: What the op said just hit me, They would not care at that time about the moral of everyone if they found out spartans died, tbh the fact that the last hope for humanity is being Invaded probably sealed that fate, but you may be on to something about the flood.

Think about it. If you read the books, you know that before the beginning of Halo 2, John steals a ship, gets a load of information then every before, including the Covie plans to invade earth and they find out about the Forunners.

Now they have all of the data that cortanna took from the first Halo.

Think about it. Would that not be stored in the Oni base?

The data about the Covenant, includiding improved weapons, shields and other bits.

The data from Halo. The covies have done much less to get their hands on information like that.

And I think the Op may be right about the flood, but thenh gain sceptical. I mean how would it have been sampled? Almost all the traces of it were destroyed.

Just a little thinking. A little.

I too wonder what happend to the S-III's that were not on Onyx.

I did think that some of the ODSTs may be S I's or the offspring of such types.*

But I do think that this will be about the good down to earth ODST's, On earth, and trying to prevent the Covanant getting their paws on sentisive Oni data. And tehn onto the matter of the Covenant or the UNSC making that large hole we see in Halo:3.

I mean, that hole did not just appear as soon as the chief got there, nor was it due to the slipspace event.

Although that did mess the city up...

BADLY.

*There is a rather solid theory that Johnson was a Spartan 1 (Project Orion) and that he did not have Boren syndrom.

This could make sense, especially with the "REMEMBER REACH" graffiti in the gameplay trailer.

Is the idea of Johnson being a S-I in the book themselves?

Actually Cortanna kept the information. That's why they need to find her to activate the Halo ring in Halo 3.

Do none of you have a sense of humour?
We do, this just isn't funny.

1) Halo: The Fall of Reach - John (MC's) childhood and lead you up to about 5 minutes before Halo 1 game

2) Halo: The Flood - Book about Halo 1 (What happens on Alpha Halo from the perspective of the master chief, the marines, the covenant, and the Flood (Via Jenkins - The marine you saw get infected in the mission of Halo 1 in the swamp)

3) Halo: FIrst Strike - What happens between Halo 1 and Halo 2.

3.5) Halo: Uprising - A collection of Marvel comic showing what happened between the end of Halo 2 and the beginning of Halo 3 (A period of several weeks.)

4) Halo: Ghosts Of Onyx - What happens between Halo 1 and Halo 3 from the perspective of the other spartans and Dr. Halsey, training the Spartan-III's and the Shields Wold: Onyx.

5) Contact Harvest - This is what happened before the master chief was born i believe, and is from the perspective of Sergeant Johnson, in which it explains how the Orion project (or Spartan-I's) were created.

Contact Harvest happens before the other books, but it may be worth reading the others before you read this for background knowledge.

Hope this helps.
