Bungie's next project: Sardonicism: Irony Evolved
On a scale of 1 to livid, where will the Arbiter fall when he gets back to Sanghelios and discovers that most of the planet has been battered by the NOVA bomb?
I'm beginning to think that The Flood is a metaphor for the all consuming, self-loathing horror that the forums have become.
1) I am sure that World at War is not the only game to ever store weapons in wall mounted holsters. In fact, the final level in Halo 1 had an armoury with wall-mounted weapons.
2) Ever increasing waves of enemies is hardly a design mechanic exclusive to any of the games you mentioned, and arguably Geometry Wars had this before either Gears or Waw.
3) Augmented reality is, again, not unique to Republic Commando
4) I'm frankly incredulous that you believe that 'a story about finding your squadmates' is too much like Republic Commando. Frankly, every drama since World War I has used this.
You seem to forget that it's not the mechanic itself, but the implementation which is important. Arguably, every console shooter since Halo is a flagrant rip-off, and every shooter before that was a clone of the other.
It's the unique machinations of the plot, characters and style of Halo we enjoy, not the fact that it's revolutionary. I personally think that this looks like an evolution, especially given that the world is open-ended.
So, in answer to your statement, actually no, Bungie hasn't TAKEN anything from anyone else, because no game developer can assert a right to a game mechanic as fundamental as those you have cited.
