Subject: Flyable pelicans, surely its time?

This is Nate

thats the thing though..... I'm sure nearly EVERYONE on bungie.net agrees that halo 3 has an insane multiplayer experience. (For those that don't, oh well, at least your here :) the reason halo 3 was so succesful was mainly based on it's multiplayer experience, and how they have been able to make it evolve over 3 titles, but still keep the same concepts, and add new ones!

But at the same time, maybe Bungie is thinking something else.... why would they add in another multiplayer experience? Sure, it's awesome, but what if they can come up with a new idea? Bungie probably isn't attempting at making another halo 3 multiplayer or campaign experience, but one that is unique to REACH!

Reach is massive, (it's a whole world!) and also the one of the main military worlds in the Halo canon. maybe flying that Pelican really isn't that far fetched. They've (BY THEY I MEAN OTHER GAME MAKERS NOT BUNGIE) made massive games that have been insanely popular in the past, and i'm sure that bungie will have no problem if they decide to make a giant, 30 vs 30 multiplayer mode, with the basic halo concepts that we all love.

Reach may really be that new game Bungie is talking about. It may still be halo, but who said that it's not going to be it's own game? I hope Bungie will shed some light on this matter, maybe drop a bomb in an update some time down the road ;)

Those pelican dreamers out there can continue to dream :) You never know.

it's no doubt within their capability to include in the game, but at this point you could flip a coin.

every game has a confined amount of resources that they can fit on a disc, while keeping gameplay smooth and loading screens to a minimum. Bungie has a fixed amount of manhours available to dedicate toward creating, finishing, and polishing the game before release. given an unlimited amount of time and manpower to create the best game ever, you bet they would make the most intricate, detailed, kickin game known to man! the question is, will bungie have the time and resources to include an operable pelican into their storyline before it breaks the bank? we'll just have to see if it makes their priority list before release.

in my opinion, it wouldn't make or break the game for me either way.... it would definitely be an awesome feature, but over the top. i'll be more interested in seeing how they pull off the core gameplay and interactive AI details of the game.

all that said, don't hold your breath, but always be open to have your expectations blown away by bungie!

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

I'm sure that pelicans did not evolve on reach. Plus it would not fly, seeing as you will be a spartan wearing almost a half of a ton of armor the little feathered rat wouldn't be able to lift you.

I am going to assume that you are joking and actually have played the Halo games and were not so incompetent not to notice that the Chief flies in Pelicans all the time. Also in the books.

That said, I would like to see some freakin Pelicans "stretch their wings."
Heres a bunch stretching their wings.

Im hoping, like most of us are, that this come true. It would be great for teams to get around when you can fly and ride in a pelican. Now how they are going to but im hoping it will happen. I still dont kno enough about Reach to understand the game but im hopin bungie will pull through and mane another master piece and hopefully include a pelican to get around the planet.

I highly doubt there will be Pelicans to fly...
But Bungie might throw in a level wear you can fly a Longsword?
And if you don't know...
The Longsword is a small, one-person fighter jet.
Who knows.

PICKETT (EGG FOR LIFE)

the lonh sword ship would also be fun to do. But in hoping something like the onlinr play will be like a whole squadrian of spartains running through the planet and kicking serious convenant ass. and the pelican would come in great help to move special teams around and ensure victory. But the longsword idea is a good idea to.

Flyable Pelicans?!
We already have them.
Go buy Halo PC and then download Halo Custom Edition. They've got all kinds of vehicles you always wanted to drive.
Rocket hogs, Pelicans, Longswords, and many other vehicles you can custom make.

  • 06.09.2009 12:05 AM PDT

Whats up ! Lets play some Halo

maybe because in Halo : Fall Of Reach, Master chief and his crew are able to pilot pelicans and at some points in the book they do

I already have custom edition.
A pelican is not over the top, you just need a bigger map to play it on(which wouldn't be that hard!!!) And surely if it can be done on a mod from a pc game from about 2003, it can be done on next gen consoles. If it doesn't fit into the storyline then there is no sense adding it into single player but its perfectly reasonable for multiplayer.

Okay for balancing it it could work like this: It takes about two shots from a spartan lazer but it only has one turret on the back + sniper seats. The advantage in multiplayer would be to transport teamates to important locations like flag and capture points. But if it is unreasonable in multiplayer then just add it to forge mode like the hornet (not transport hornet).

Here we are again bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon same kind of jungle. Real number 10 remember... Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out just you and me, nobody else. Right on top huh? Not a scratch... Not a f**kin' scratch. You know who ever got you. They'll come back again. And when he does I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'M GONNA CUT YOUR NAME RIGHT INTO HIM!

I'm not sure the longsword would work that well in the game due to the sheer speed of the thing. The maps that would have to be produced for the pelican would have to be far larger than whats available in Halo 3 but for you to really open the longsword up surely the maps would have to be even larger again?

  • 06.09.2009 7:24 AM PDT

if they could pull it of i would clap my hands and go "yayy"
at the least they will play a major part in the campagn if they stay true to the books.
but if they can make it work in multiplayer, dude, the maps would need to be so huge and mutiplayer would need way more then 16 people. but holy crap bungie if you get halo:reach right you can be yet another nail in the ps3s coffin, or better yet a railroad spike lol

Your toast has been burned! And NO amount of scraping will remove the black parts!!.

Fly the Pelican? You can fly THIS ONE in X-Plane. ;-)

Seriously though, it would be cool to have in Reach, if executed correctly. It could also be a huge mistake. I like what Bungie's done so far, I trust 'em. If it's there, it'll be awesome. If it's not there, then obviously it wasn't awesome enough to include.

  • 06.09.2009 9:22 AM PDT

Well I guess I better put some pants on.

I feel like I'm gonna break this thing!

Do you really want to fly a pelican?
Would it really be fun?
Do you really want to ferry people around?

  • 06.09.2009 9:24 AM PDT

Yeah I think a lot of people will enjoy being there teams designated pilot, most organised teams have a designated sniper and drivers anyway.

Dude, have you even read any of the books? Or even played the game? There have been TONS of times where a SPARTAN has been flown/or dropped in a pelican.

Here are a few to jog your memory:

1) Halo 1: Truth and Reconciliation: MC and Marines dropped by Pelican.
2) Halo 1: Silent Cartographer - MC dropped by Pelican.
3) Halo 1: Assault on the Control Room - MC dropped by Pelican.

4) Halo 2: Outskirts: MC's Pelican destroyed (but he was onboard)

5) Halo 3: Sierra117: MC and Marines picked up by Kilo 23.
6) Halo 3: Crow's Nest: MC and Johnson dropped off my Kilo 23.
7) Halo 3: The Ark: MC dropped off by Kilo 23 on the Ark.
8) Halo 3: The Covenant: Opening cutscene: Dropped off with ODST's at level start.
9) Halo 3: Cortana: Flys Pelican from flood infested High Charity to Installation 04(II)
10) Halo 3: Halo: Crash lands Pelican on Installation 04(II)

\\\\\\\\\\
ALSO:
//////////

In the Halo novel "Halo: First Stike", the beginning of the book follows Red team, who was lead by Frederick (SPARTAN 104). They were supposed to protect ground based generators that powered Reach's orbital Super-MAC guns.

My point?

They got onto the planet via (you guessed it) Pelicans. And yes, I said Red TEAM, so there are more than one SPARTANS onboard.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
AND LASTLY:
////////////////////////

Halo Wars. Yes, this point is a little irrelevant, but in Halo Wars, you can create three Spartans. You can transport all three at ONCE via PELICAN!
And I believe in the 4th or 5th mission, you get a whole squad of around 8 Spartans, which can, again, be transported via Pelican ALL AT ONCE!

So, yes, it is VERY possible to transport SPARTANS with a Pelican. If you like, I could find the statistics of the Pelican.

BTW, I'm sure there are more than ten times that Master Chief flew in a Pelican, as well as other Spartans.

Any questions, just ask.

I'm impressed with those pelican stats dude. Just goes to further my point that a key vehicle in UNSC arsenal and the halo universe has been beyond our grasp and hopefully we'll be able to exploite the full potential of the pelican in reach.

If bungie would do it, they already would have. the game should be starting testing soon. because media productions like this usualy take a year or two to finalize, test, and rate. so if they didnt do it, it aint ever hapening

I think it would be a pretty good idea, and then instead of exploding in the air, its engine would light fire and then the pelican starts to crash that way the remains would look like the pelican on Vallhala. This way some (like 10% of the people could survive the crash with their health/shields really low.
