Sorry I've been away for so long.Been playing CS-S alot recently and not enough Halo PC. Anyway, I come back to release a guide (which are all the rage now) to sniping at Blood Gulch, possibly THE BEST place for sniping in Halo. This includes sniping tips, my keyboard layout, maps, areas good for sniping, and what to do when confronted with a warthog in an all sniping game. Enjoy!

*THIS IS FOR CTF—CAPTURE THEIR FLAG NOT TAKE YOUR FLAG THERE*

=========================================
PART I: The Map Blood Gulch
=========================================

In Blood Gulch there are many good sniping areas. I'll tell you them, and places that many people think are dood but are infact, not. But first, the map.

There are the two bases in Blood Gulch. The Red and Blue bases. They are both pretty much equally balanced, but I prefer the Red base more. It is better for offense, but not well defendable. The Blue base is harder to break into and easier to defend. (all in sniping). Right, so here we go.

=========================================
PART II: Map Tactics
=========================================

Ok, in BG there is one basic place that is vital to have. Basically, whichever team has it for longest wins. It is the place where there is a big hill and tunnels around it. KEEP THIS PLACE AND YOU’LL MOST LIKELY WIN!! This is the most important place in Blood Gulch for sniping, because it is within walking distance from Blue base, teleporting distance from Red Base, and it provides AMAZING offensive and defensive cover because of the hill and small “valleys” which are good for point blanking.

I. Offensive/Defense Splitting of Teams

It is better to have a good offensive when sniping then defense. This is the case in most CTF type games.

==========================================
PART III: Sniping Spots- Spots ranked from 1-10 10 best
==========================================

MAP HERE.

A. Nice place with dark areas to strafe on. You’ll need to have good aim and timing, tho. 8 out of 10
B. Ok place, good for sniping people on blue base because it exposes only a small bit of your head. 6 out of 10
C. Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t a very good place to snipe in an all sniping game. In fact, it sucks. If you’re playing with a fairly good crowd, you’ll be lucky to get up there on you’re feet. Better off taking a warthog up there. Anyway, 4 out of 10.
D. A nice place to strafe with a nice ammo supply. Relatively good view of most of the map. 7.5 out of 10
E. Reasonable view of the map. Bring lots of ammo tho. Also good spot to watch F from. 6 out of 10.
F. THE MOST IMPORTANT SPOT OF ALL OF THE MAP!!!! Keep this place at all costs! I cant stress that enough! It provides an amazing spot to attack from and spawn kill (although this is kind of a bad thing to do and I don’t recommend doing that out of courtesy), and watch the other team’s teleport from. 10 out of 10.
G. Fun spot if you’re Red. A lot of people know about this though, but there is a little ditch were you can hide in and get behind shots from. Easy to get killed from if discovered tho. 6 out of 10.
H. Wide open space, easy to be killed from. O.k. if your team is winning. 5 out of 10.
I. Nice place to strafe. 6 out of 10.
J. Pop up and kill. Nice cover from the little hills. 7 out of 10.
K. Here there is the little ramp thingy that is sort of like spot B for Blue. Less cover, however. 5.5 out of 10.

==========================================
10 Sniping Skills To Improve your skill
==========================================

1. STRAFE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT!!!
2. Don’t jump unless point-blanking. MELEE IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT!
3. Go for headshots if there are shields with sniper rifle, and go for headshots with pistol all the time.
4. Play with a high mouse sensitivity and a good optical mouse.
5. Don’t stand still.
6. Don’t use a hog unless going for flag. (Like, don’t run over people, that’s for n00bs).
7. Get lots of ammo and nades before going out.
8. Campin is king in sniping wars.
9. Remember, the rifle has a lag on it, so anticipate and compensate for movement.
10. When confronted with a warthog, circle around a rock and keep shootin with a pistol. Or nade it.

==========================================
Keyboard Setup
==========================================

Find out whats good for you. I play with a high mouse speed, NOT INVERTED, and my keyboard is simple:

Movement/ Aim: WSAD & Mouse
Action: E
Melee: F
Fire: Left Mouse
Nade: Right Mouse
Light: Q
Zoom: V
Reload: R
Crouch: Ctrl
Switch: Tab

Experiment and find whats best for you!

You know, if you continue to make these guides, there could be a new sticky with level guides in the works...

I will say, quite helpful, and has a good chance to be stickied in some way. Very well written. Love the overhead map of BG :D

Overall good guide. Good evaluation of the different spots on the map, although I could say that I disagreed with a couple.

Nice strategy guide as to which spots to keep, and which to leave. So, in agreement with SLD, nice overhead,well written, and helpful.

Having a map is very helpful. If I had a nickle for all the times I tried to figure out where people were talking about... Good guide for the beggining and intermidiate sniper. If you fix your spelling and grammer this has a good chance of being guided.

It's highly overrated anyway. The hill is where all the big battles start and end.

you can get to sniper tower by making a spartan pyramid, but that takes too much time and cooperation

also, some people find it easier to switch the zoom or the switch weapons button with the scroll wheel, it's faster.

Very nice and well-written. I like the headings. I would say that there are many maps where the sniping is good. I wouldn't say blood gulch is the best, but it is a lot of fun. Good job - keep stuff like this coming; it enriches the forums.
