Is this going to use the same Engine as Halo 3?Or is it going to be a new one?

I would assume they are upgrading.

I would hope they were but I would like to know for sure.I would liek to atleast see an upgrade visually.

It might be a little while until you know for sure

not Pikesmaker

Probably not. It takes a lot of work to design a new engine. This game is being released in less than a year and a half, and being worked on by half the Bungie team.

yeah it may be.I may have to wait until the beta to find out.I'm hoping for a more realistic look.Halo 3 just has a sorta cartoon feel to it.

No, it will have a new engine, no doubt about it.

Otherwise, Bungie would have labeled it a Halo 3 campaign extension, as they did ODST.

you have to remember also that it is likely that they have been working on it for a good amount of time before they announced it. With a team bungie's size and caliber i would assume they created a new engine for reach

I AM AN MLG PRO

I think I heard either Jarrard or Staten say in an interview it was going to be a all new engine. And more than half of the team is working on the game, in fact ODST is being made by a very small team and Bungie has expanded since H3 was developed. I expect a new engine that utilizes rougher textures and makes the game look more like a realistic future shooter rather than a graphic novel graphic feel.

It's not that hard for Bungie to make a few edits to the Halo 3 engine in a year and a half and put it into a new game. Bungie is planning on releasing a multiplayer beta which comes with ODST in September, so it's safe to say that there will be a lot of changes. If there weren't many changes to the engine, there would be no point in having a beta.

In short, yes, it will most likely have a new engine.

It's got to be a new engine or else we're just playing Halo 3 with a new story and maybe a few tweaks. And i believe they said that ODST pushed the engine to new heights and that game doesnt look much different than H3.

If they can't make major changes to the net-code then for sure they need a new engine. If they can't make major changes to forge with this engine, then they need a new one also. I would like them to use 60 frames per second but that is not necessary.

Every major Halo game has had it's own engine. Bungie has probably been working on this since the release of Halo 3.

-ODST was not made by all of Bungie, but by a small portion of developers using the existing engine made for Halo 3. If it didn't have a new engine I would be disappointed, but who knows?

Mind posting a link to that interview? Thanks.
