I mean the trailer shows a planet being bombarded, and I think glassed if Im correct, and in the novel Reach was the first planet to fall to the Covenant. So is it safe to say that this will be the grittier, dark halo game that was rumored aroung TGS last year.

I think it is the perfect setting. Multiple Spartan 1's in a battle to the death which perfectly sets up the rise of Master Chief. Co-op in this setting would be awesome with everyone playing as a different unique spartan, maybe a squad based game. In the picture above it appears to include A soldier with an AR, a sniper, a heavy weapons specialist, the second to the left appears to have a pistol in his right hand, and the second to right with a knife?

Maybe the game will be more tactical, and maybe it will have the huge scale battle we all hoped for when that Hope Runs Deep trailer was shown.

Reach wasn't the first to fall, Harvest was if I can remember correctly. However, I do hope this to be a squad-based game. That was one of the larger complaints in Halo 3 multiplayer... the lack of clans. It would fit the bill.

Harvest was the first contact I think, but Reach was the first to fall.

Well, Dan, don't confuse the Spartan-Is with the Spartan-IIs. The Spartan-Is were initially considered a failure, as part of Project Orion. The second wave of Spartans are the Spartan-IIs, which is what Master Chief and all of his comrades are from. Unless you understand this and were purporting that some Spartan-Is were actually in said battle?

Anyway, I honestly don't think we can say it is safe to assume it's based on the book quite yet. It most obviously has something to do with Reach, but it might take us through a side-story or other piece of important content that was never revealed in the novel.

I might be mistaken I havent reaad any Halo fiction in a couple years its all a haze, well if they were spartan II's than it still shows an epic battle of survival that leads to the Master Chief story Arc.

That's definitley not correct. Harvest was glassed among very many others before reach was attacked.
