PORTAL in Reach!

What exactly are they portrayed to do damage wise? Like its a big blast that killed many incoming ODSTs and destroyed the Space Elevator and maybe more, but the city in ODST isn't completely obliterated like it seemed to be in Halo 2 (due to the massive blast of light that blew vehicles away). Also in Halo 2 it showed buildings coming out of the teleporter along with Regret's ship.

It could be that the blast was limited to just the area right near the elevator, but it seemed to have some momentum in Halo 2.

the slipspace rupture blows you way off course, it also sends another HEV right into your pod too

I think it's really, really interesting that the rupture didn't destroy the city like it was speculated to be, as you mentioned - hopefully we'll be able to see what actually causes the space elevator to collapse.

A slipspace rupture is sort of like an explosive pulse. Damage wont be catastrophic, but it will do some damage. I don't know why it's worse in Halo 2.

Oops sorry, Well not all the city gets encompassed by the rupture, yes alot of damage close to the Elevator is caused but to my knowledge you never get to go close to it, it also destroys the elevator causing it to collapse at some point, but alot more can be read At the Ascendant Justice Website if you want more, my memory sucks otherwise id tell you what it says there

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬

"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

What I don't understand is why the Covie didn't just fly all their ships onto Earth and then jump right out again. Then they could return for a full assault, made easier by the fact that everything is in ruins from the slipspace jumps.

Did you not pay attention to the games, or something?

Actually, if you watch the E3 demo closely, you see it collapse.

As for its height, it'll be rediculously tall because it goes into space, however, parts of it wouldn't crash to Earth and float around in space instead, while other pieces may come back down upon the Earth like meteors.

What are you implying? They never do anything like this again.

And by full assault, I mean on all Earth, not just Mombassa, if thats what you mean.

The trailers for Halo 2 lead us to believe that the Covenant wanted to destroy Earth, while the game actually showed that they were only looking for something, whether they knew about the portal or not. That's why they never attacked the whole planet, they only wanted what it had.

Edit - I reread what you posted and fully understood it now, but Regret jumping like that was out of pure fear. Nobody has ever attempted a slipspace jump like that because no one knew the results of it, as far as I believe.
