Hey, woah, we've seen two planets in space both just-so-happening shown from the end of Halo 3 and the beginning of Reach's trailer. They must be the same one!

It isn't Onyx either, remeber? It was destroyed by 2 FENRIS warheads revealing it is actually trillions of Sentinels. They left behind the miniscule Micro-Dyson Sphere housing Dr. Halsey, Mendez and the Spartans.
Not Onyx.

I'd just like to point out two things:

1) The Dyson Sphere is inside slipspace. Would not be visible or accessible from standard space. The back half of Forward Unto Dawn (where Chief and Cortana are) did not manage to enter slipspace, so the planet in view cannot be the Dyson Sphere.

2) The Dyson Sphere is by no means minuscule. The Halo rings are about 10,000 miles across. This Dyson Sphere has an internal radius of 1 AU (Astronomical Unit. 1 AU is equal to the average distance of the Earth from the Sun, or, 93,000,000 miles), as stated by Halsey. To put that in perspective, the surface area of the inside of the Dyson Sphere they're on is equal to a hair under 552 MILLION Earths. If the Sphere had the same population as Earth only 552 million fold, the Sphere could have held a population of about 36 quintillion people. That's a 36 followed by 18 zeros. Makes you wonder about the Forerunner and THEIR predecessors.

I in no way support the "planet is Onyx" theory. As I have said, I believe it to be the Precursor Rainbow World.
I meant that the exterior view of the Dyson-Sphere is miniscule...Apparently, it's bigger on the inside. Doctor Who reference, anyone?

I watched, and there is no significant match anywhere in either video. Reach is not in the Legendary Ending.

the planet u see in the legendary ending might be onix but IT IS NOT REACH!!!

Onyx was destroyed in Ghost of Onyx, which takes place during halo 2 (or 3). so no, its not onyx

The Legendary Planet is most likely Forerunner, with the off chance that it's Covenant.

Any correlation to Reach, Time Travel, Marathon, Mars, etc. are illogical conclusions.

  • 06.07.2009 4:36 AM PDT

Nobody can say for sure whether it is or it isn't until Bungie announce the storyline, or maybe until you finish the game.

Time travel is just as likely as other theory, because nobody has any hard evidence to prove or disprove it. I'm not saying that's what happened, it's just an example...

no it's not, the cheif landed on Onyx, and bungie said it'll be a prequel, pay attention

  • 06.07.2009 5:15 AM PDT

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Bungie already say at E3 that Halo:Reach is a prequel to the trilogy!?!?

Rule 6: Respect the Admins

“It’s their website, and they can do whatever the hell they like with it. You’re a guest, and hassling them about how they run things is akin to going round your Auntie’s house and curling one out in her tea-pot.”

Possible but not likely. remember he only went half way through the arc's massive teleporter. So although it could have dropped him there it most likely dropped him some where else.

So it is possible.

If you read the books then you will find that Reach was compleatly glassed and destroyed by the covenant, and my opinion on this matter is that it couled easliy be the planet onyx from ghosts of onyx Which was said to be completly remote of all life except the training of spartans and also I think that randy( a few comments above) Has a valid point and to point out to the top comments of this page, It may very well be onyx, befor it was destroyed by the 2 fenris warheads that kurt sacrificed himself to detonate

Two planets from a distance are gonna look similar, I have faith in Bungie that the won't put some weird time travel twist in Reach.

It's a prequel so we can we stop all these threads now.

Your right

  • 06.07.2009 5:42 AM PDT

yea they already said that, but anyway the suns are different for the planets. The legendary ending one is blue and closer and the reach one is reddish and far away. To those that say the planets look alike, well of course they do all planets are spheres! The legendary ending planet is all black, except for a few glyphs on the surface. Reach was a heavily populated planet so its surface would be covered with lights.

Let grunts Sleep!!!

Hey, it's possible that the planet Master chief is floating toward is Reach. But too bad the surface of the planet was destroyed years before.

Wort, wort, wort!

I aint saying that he traveled in time. Im saying that HE MIGHT have slipped near glassed Reach. Im sure the game will be a Prequel, and Im sure MC wont be the main char, and Im sure we might hear or see him for a few secs in game. That planet can be anything, another glassed world, reach, forruner planet, anything! Time Travel theory is lame. It would ruin the realistic (fictional but still realistic) story of Halo.

Nope.

Halo: Reach is a -blam!- Prequel. It has NOTHING to do with the Legendary Ending. NOTHING.

Proof please. Otherwise your post is as much speculation or truth as the OP.

Read the book Fall Of Reach. If you do that you will see that the events of Reach take place before Halo CE.

Anyway the whole time travel back to Reach is most likely not going to happen. Not to mention Master Chief has already did a bit of a time distortion trip back to Reach to pick up his Spartan buddies in the novel First Strike. Going back to Reach a third time? What in hell for?

You're all wrong, the Planet at the end of Halo 3 Legendary is actually an ancient Ice Cream Factory, and Reach was where the Forerunners got their toppings.

Now, in the Reach trailer, you can CLEARLY see the nebula from the Legendary ending. Also, Foreboding Dream is from an ARG based around Halo. There is this Stonewall program that is made in case of Time Travel in the universe. Just think, don't go in with your pre-made assumptions.

Ok well let me smash this thread as well....

Firstly a nebula is NOT what we saw but merely a reflection of the local sun off the plaent/construct. Learn you astronomy facts first kid.
Secondly Bungie denounced time travel and anyways it would make the story plot of Halo 1,2,3, all complete pointless babble an make Halo: reach a game that everyone wants returned.
Lastly our "pre-made assumptions" are the truth an most of the fourming population that actually read other threads knows that time travel IS NOT going to happen. oh an to all you people saying "look at the cut in half ship idiot!!!" well the shipin the trailer is ALL THERE its just in half but at the end of H3 legendary its only ONE HALF NOT BOTH.

  • 06.07.2009 10:42 AM PDT

I'm da BOSS.

This "broken ship" theory doesn't even add up. The half of the ship from the 'legendary ending' is small than the broken ship over Reach.

Halo: Reach is probably going to be what happened on Reach before/during Halo: CE, and maybe during First Strike (since they came back to round up who was left). If anything, that's probably the only book they'd reference. Maybe the end of Fall of Reach.

Anywho, I have no doubt Bungie will do a great job with this game. I've yet to be disappointed.

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

OP, If I had a chaingun...

Sorry for the double post, but I wouldn't count that as a credible source. All it did was describe the book, and make an assumption that this game will follow said book. -_-

Leaving before I get caught up in this theory stuff.
