The Rookie get knocked out for several hours because his drop pod got hit by debris. When they are dropping it is day. He wakes up at night after all the flashbacks actually occurred. Bungie has said he gets knocked out for several hours...

the ships jumps as the ODST are falling to earth, they all hit the ground at the same time. the rookie gets knocked out for 6 hours. what happens between that time is a mystery ATM.

There are no time mistakes, the team at Bungie aren't nearly that stupid.

The Rookie is unconscious for 6 hours, and Dutch's flashback [the only one we have seen part of] happens 2 hours after the drop.

The entire city was NOT destroyed, only damaged.

The ONI building is destroyed between 2 and 6 hours after the drop.
