The guy on the left is definitely not a regular spartan since there is way to much emphasis drawn to him. He isn't Sam, he is dead. So I think the 'thing' on the left is one of the Spartans who were screwed up when they were augmented. It's funny; I got this idea watching Fantastic Four.

Yeah he does look a bit weird, and what's the gun he's holding it's got a big long chain of ammo, haven't see that before in Halo. Looks lke it should be mounted

It's a flame thrower

And there is already a guy who made a thread saying who everyone is(he thinks). I'd check it out because he gives good evidence.

Rule 6: Respect the Admins

“It’s their website, and they can do whatever the hell they like with it. You’re a guest, and hassling them about how they run things is akin to going round your Auntie’s house and curling one out in her tea-pot.”

On problem with your pick.

JOHN WAS NEVER ON REACH.

He ordered the majority to go there while he and a few others wen't to hijack a covenate ship.

After a long series of events and twists of fate he ended up heading towards the events of Halo. READ THE BOOK.

Flamethrowers can change. This was before Halo 1. The flamethrower we saw is Halo 3's.

And, it can be an attached flamethrower so it doesn't run out of gas.

Powerful : You're right John and all the spartans were on Reach getting their newest armor. They all board the cruiser to begin their new mission of attempting to capture a Covenant Ship. However as they are preparing to leave an Armada comes out of Slipspace. The Chief, and Linda (may a couple others I'm fuzzy at this point) go on a zero G mission to wipe the computer of a UNSC vessel that didn't have time to follow the Cole protocol. The rest of the Spartans attempt to go to the surface of Reach to defend the Orbital Gun power stations. After Halo 1 the Chief, Sgt. Johnson, and a few others return to Reach to search for any surviving Spartans. They discover that the Covenant didn't glass all of the Planet and that they were actually searching for something. So it's possible Halo Reach will span the timeframe before Halo 1 and after Halo 1 but before Halo 2.

If the game does use the First Strike novel as a basis..... a lot of the game wouldn't take place on Reach though.

First Strike was what came to mind first but that would be :

Chief in Longsword. Meets up with survivors on Pelican. Get Linda back from floating around in space. Steal Covenant ship.

Go to Reach. Meet up with Spartans, kill lots of things getting in and out with Halsey along with goddamn relic.

Destroy Covenant fleet. Go in, kill lots of -blam!-, blow -blam!- up.

Don't think it even warrants being called Halo:Reach. But then who knows?

I was thinking this might in fact... not be a Spartan based game. Its a squad of ODSTs and that big dude might be a suit of prototype Mjolnir armour. The stuff that has to be connected to a power supply. Perhaps you gain access to it at certain outposts. And maybe you can even use it as long as its power supply lasts, so you gotta like fight from one power plug to another before the thing runs outta juice.

Bungie hasn't quite done us the fanservice of giving us awesome novel material games, so I'm just dubious about a game with a squad of Spartans.

Wrong. John was in fact on reach, and for a good period of time. The game is called Halo: Reach, not Halo: The Fall of Reach. It does not have to follow just the events depicted in the first book, or even just events on the planet itself. The mission where Sam died that Master Chief was on took place in space around reach. Halo 2 had missions in space stations, why not Halo: Reach? Since the majority of Fall of Reach took place before they became full fledged Spartans, I think it is likely it will also include the events of First Strike, since that delves alot more into the mythology and the mystery behind Reach and why the Covenant wanted it so badly.

My guess is that the biggest one is Fred. I kind of remember something about him being the strongest or best Spartan. Master Chief is just the luckiest.

Also, I'd much rather as play as some other Spartan that is fighting on Reach than MC in space. While it's true that MC was on Reach for a long time, that was before it came under attack. He was in space when the planet was attacked, so he never fought on the planet.

They'll probably overwrite some stuff that happened in the books if not alot of stuff.

Sam wasn't dead in the Fall of Reach was he? So it could be Sam.

He was on Reach for a long time after it was attacked also. After the events of Halo 1 before Halo 2 he came back to Reach to go down to the planet to rescue/find the Spartans he sent down there. That is when the majority of interesting events take place on Reach.

READ THE OTHER BOOK TOO!

First Strike. Chief goes back to Reach and finds a Spartan team. I bet you it is this team we see on the pic.
So my guess is the game will play trough the end of Fall of Reach and the part of First Strike when Chief is on Reach.

KEEP IT CLEAN

How do you know Sam is dead? Just because the book says so doesn't mean it's true. How could you possibly know that Halo: Reach is based EXACTLY on The Fall of Reach story?
