Oh well...no elites.
Bungie confirmed that regret took all the elites with him when they left mombasa.
Sure, elites would have been nice but nothing we can do about it now...

Stop whining. I guarantee you will buy the game on September 22nd. Either stop whining or don't buy the game.

OP, it isn't like the Humans invented all that stuff seconds before Halo 3.
It was still there, we (Master Chief) just weren't using it yet.

I respect your opinion, I'm probably just going to disagree with it.

If you, the consumer, a single person, has noticed this on your own, don't you think that Bungie, a team of people working with a single goal of world domination and unlimited access to the Halo Bible, have noticed this as well? Relax. Besides, if they screw up, we aren't in a position to demand anything.

SQUEEBLE

Ok...

So why would they say that bit about "ANYTHING" in your way?

It's to shut people up, and tell them to move on from fighting Elites. Its a bummer, but nobody cares anymore. I cared, don't care anymore. It's clear that Bungie intends to make a good game here, and I guess Brutes just have to be the target of our bullets.

It also makes sense that Brutes are there during the night-time. They're technically the clean-up crew.

However, I will give you this: Why in the Flashbacks, are we not fighting Elites? Unless I read the demo and trailers wrong, the flashbacks still have you fight before the Slipspace Rupture happened.

I still think Bungie should include Elites in Firefight, though.

I know you're right, and probably the whole Bungie staff too. But I don't think they will change this mishap because they heard it to late. They already set a release date and everything. Maybe you will have elites playing alongside with you or something, but you need to live with the thing that there aren't any elites to fight against.

EVEN IF the game takes place before the "Changing of the guard," it doesn't mean Brutes weren't fighting for the Covenant, and it doesn't mean they weren't on Earth...

Oh, and: WHO EVEN GIVES A FLYING -blam!-, anyways?

  • 06.07.2009 11:25 AM PDT

OK everything is still in the Halo universe, its just if we have access to it. And its stated in something I think its a book that after the slip space jump Brutes were put in

The elites were probably in more important areas like on their way to Delta halo and the brutes were sent to Earth just to make sure no one survived the slipspace event(ODSTs) because the most important thing at that time to the prophets was getting to the Delta halo and activating it, not fighting on Earth. That's why they sent the brutes to Earth, it wasn't an important area to control at that time, unlike in Halo 3 where it was the most important area to the covenant at first because they wanted to find the portal to the Ark.

There is a lot of ways you can go with this.

Weren't the Brute Squads the first to (and last to leave) attack during an invasion/battle before the civil war?

The game begins 6 hours after Halo 2's Level 5 Metropolis.

Level 3 Metropolis. Your argument is now invalid.

Technically:

1. The Heretic
2. Armoury
3. Cairo Station
4. Outskirts
5. Metropolis

I just want to point something out again that I doubt many will see, but I feel is very important (if anybody who agrees could edit this into an earlier post of their's, it would be appreciated).

I am sure you could invent a hundred explanations for the absence of Elites in New Mombasa, many of them quite uncontrived, I'm sure.

The point is, could Bungie have invented an explanation for the presence of Elites in New Mombasa?

I think the answer is yes.

So why didn't they? Almost everybody agrees that Elites were more interesting opponents than Brutes.

You gotta remember that only a small minority of Bungie was working on ODST. The rest have been working on Reach and another unnamed project. It's easier to take the Brute programming from Halo 3 than to start from scratch with Elites, even if there's combat programming for them already. You would still need to change stuff. Plain and simple, it was easier for Bungie to put in Brutes than Elites.

I'm still getting the game though.

pass

yeah who wouldn't of loved to fight eletes again? And the silly story for them not being in halo odst, is lame but it works non the less. Brutes are fun to fight, but being able to fight a mix of the 2 is best. I hope bungie know this, which im sure they do.

Lets hope for halo reach they will have eletes and brutes in the game. There really is no way they cant put eletes in reach, they were there in mass. So if u want eletes just think of ODST as a time passer as you wait for Reach.

I for one cant wait, if its even remotely like "the fall of reach" we're in for one hell of a game.

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

There are already several topics about this. And I can end your theory with one point.

The elites left with Regret. and the Prophets started replacing Elites even before the Civil War started.

and bungie said ODST takes place weeks BEFORE halo 3 starts

  • 06.07.2009 1:38 PM PDT

Bungie please resolve the Banshee Barrel-Roll Legendary-Thumbstick Issue.

from what i remember from the superintendent trailer alot of time passed from when the ODSTs landed and the Rookie got outa his pod

  • 06.07.2009 1:55 PM PDT

bet theres a easter egg of a elite (who was left behind) that asks you for a ride as you go past him or something :P

  • 06.07.2009 2:04 PM PDT

Mmm, and where it says that there were more elites in Earth after Regret's ship did the jump?

That is speculation too.

I think it is more feasible that the rest of the elites were with Regret's ship. Remember when Cortana says: "I've been analyzing the Covenant tactical chatter. They're surprised, confused... I don't think they expected us to be here. Not... you and me...all of us... humanity, on Earth. Odd, I know, but it does help explain why they came here with such a small fleet." at almost the end of the level Outskirts.
Even Lord Hood says: "Something's not right... The fleet that destroyed Reach was fifty times this size." in the level "Cairo Station".

If the fleet was such small, why do you think there are still elites after the massacre MC did? Not counting the rest of the UNSC corps. C'mon even a Scarab was destroyed.

Thats why I see reasonable the theory of "The remaining elites are in Regret's carrier while the slip-space event. Then Brutes were sent to Earth to continue" Why elites are with Regret? They are the protectors of the Prophets at that moment. Why the brutes were sent? To continue to attack New Mombasa, as reinforcements. Even in the Halo Uprising comics the Brutes are already attacking.

also, they said halo 3 was the end of the story arch.

not the last halo game.
