Stop Shooting at Me!

See the picture on this linked page:

There is an ODST soldier carrying and firing a chain gun just like a Spartan would do.
I was thinking only a Spartan or Elite would be strong enough to lift that and deal with the recoil.
I know it's just a game but I kinda liked the idea that we could explore the Halo universe as a weaker ordinary human. You'd have to use more strategy and tools to defeat a much stronger enemy.
How much stronger than a regular human is an ODST?
The picture just begs the question.

Thats the question many have been asking. Im pretty sure bungie decided to include the detached turret for gameplay reasons.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

They are regular humans. In cool black helmeted body suits.

The AR is an awesome weapon, RESPECT IT AS SUCH!!!

no, ODST's are not super-humans, it is only in firefight that you can do that sort of stuff(i think).

Thanks guys, glad to see I'm not the only one confused.

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?
Black Tower

they arent supersoldiers, but it is possible their armor has been slightly augmented to enhance strength, i mean we practically have that now.

I'm not sure, but even if they're drugged, it wont be as intense as SPARTAN augmentation drugs.

Im pretty sure that there not drugged or anything like that. They are just some of the strongest humans besides spartans with some armour that helps them out.

Stop Shooting at Me!

This is a stretch but you know how in Halo Wars you have to discover New Blood and Adrenaline technologies to upgrade your soldiers; maybe the ODST run on those drugs.

With normal Adrenaline mothers have been reported to lift heavy objects (a car in one story) to save their kids. Maybe Adrenaline could explain it.

I think they are just the best human soldiers- not necessarily as enhanced like Spartans. However I am curious as to whether there are any specs (weight, ability enhancement, etc) on the ODST armor- anyone know if there is any info on that?

Stop Shooting at Me!

Actually being able to turn on Adrenaline like Active Camo or an Overshield would be kind of cool. It would give you enhanced speed, damage resistance and strength for a few crucial seconds while you pulled off some fantastic stunts or attacks.

Thanks for choosing to whine over being a productive member of the community and possible element towards advancing Reach.

In terms of story canon it's possible that Marine troopers have some medical enhancements to make the more effective in combat. Nothing on par with the Spartans obviously.

As for the picture. It's just for gameplay mechanics. It's most likely in Firefight only where story doesn't matter.

maybe they have something like this

they may just have enough strength to lift heavier objects

just no super speed or high jump cause this thing only helps lift heavy objects

this would have good uses in the military now, cause they often have to carry lots of gear

There has been no mention that the ODST body suite includes any sort of physical augumentation, not even the SPI armour had it.

There's no mention that it doesn't enhance strength either, though it is unlikely. Still, for those of you who want to know how ODST's can pick up turrets and stuff, let's just say that it does.

No, there just regular soldiers in armor. But remember that the picture is in firefight, and only in Campaign would it be canon.

Firefight breaks the rules for the sake of it not being impossible. In Firefight you can wield gravity hammers and carry turrets,

I dont remember reading anything about ODST armored being powered. However, the spartan III's is. Someone posted above said it wasnt powered but it is.SPI= Semi Powered Infiltration

Thank you sir, that was an epic rendition of this topic.

and how!

No.

ODSTs do not have any genetic augmentations, nor does their vacuum rated armor have any strength/speed/reflex amplification devices.

I am really hoping that this feature will only be present in Firefight, and that would be so the ability is only there for gameplay reasons. If it were in the campaign mode...it would make no sense canoncially.
