I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Bungie's done a damned good job of keeping the little retconning they do consistently pleasing. While there is always that minute percentage chance that they could retcon something disgusting like the purported time travel theories, I wouldn't hold my breath even if I were about to be plunged underwater.

Finished the Fight!

Time travel is not part of Halo.

'Nuff said. And don't even consider that strange, undiscovered Forerunner technology that could enable time travel should enter into this discussion or, gods forbid, suddenly pop-up in any of the games. After all, the Forerunner either could not come up with the technology or found it impractical to solve the matter of the Flood infestation that destroyed their empire a hundred millenia before.

As for TFOR being canon, well, all I can say is to take into account what George Lucas did in regards to the SW prequels vs. the Expanded Universe made up by dozens of novels -- many of them arguably with better writing/plots than the drek that made it to the big screen. But I digress: If Bungie/MS wants to disregards certain elements of the novels, they can damn well do so since, after all, Halo is their baby (well, Microsoft's anyways due to all those annoying and pesky TM's and © ). This would most certainly explain Sierra 320 and 259. However, Halo Wars' Timeline does seem officially canonize the events of TFOR, given all the entries in said timeline that refer to it. So, we'll have to wait and see how it's all explained away.

..Well done Chicken..you will go far in this Forum

Also, you might want to say that there are spoilers to "Fall of Reach". Still, I'm really annoyed listening to all of the time travel crap.

WoW is like Girls Gone Wild without the tits: idiots and douches taking turns doing anything to get noticed, and no one knows what a condom looks like.

While time travel is technically feasible(black holes, wormholes, etc.)... it would be a terrible plot point. It would make halo become a cheesy sci-fi soap opera. There is just no way Bungie would write that into one of their games. So I agree with everything said 100%.

  • 06.22.2009 11:46 AM PDT

Thanks for the support, all!

To anyone who does still support Time Travel - Please, show some logical thinking as to why it would be in the game, and how it would work. Really, go ahead.

Johnson is immune to the Flood?

He is immune from infection, not from getting ripped a new one. Johnson has Borens syndrom (spelling?), which causes him to be resilient to Flood infection. I believe the best explanation of the "why" is in the novel First Strike.
To be exact, the Boren's Syndrome was revealed to be a cover-up in the Halo Graphic Novel. He is actually immune because he is a Spartan-I, something the ONI wanted to cover up.

I had heard that, but is that Canon? I've never read the graphic novel.

I hate to use your own quote against you, but in your quote by Staten it clearly says,
In the future we may choose to revise or flat-out ignore some of the less appealing ideas (Johnson's biological immunity to the Flood, for example), but folks should treat them as defining elements of the Halo universe.
By this statement alone you can't rule anything out. Even time travel. Personally, I don't think time travel will play a part in the game at all. More so I hope it doesn't. However, based on Staten's words, nothing at all can be 100% discounted.

shut up and shoot!!!

while time travel is possible in fictions it would not be beneficial to halo reach to use it... i mean why there is no reason

Sure, we can go with that. It also means that making giant llamas the primary enemies, attacking the planet wearing penguin roller skates and banana slingshots isn't discounted either. They're just about as likely.

Actually, less. Staten as personally stated he dislikes the Time Travel plot twists. Said quote is in the OP.

time travel is a stupid idea, theres already teleporters and laser beams if ther was time travel then more people can say ther should be magic and floating carpets (wich would be stupid)

I wonder if a magic carpet is weight rated for a Spartan?

That's a good question. What's the material?

Well if it's traditional more than likely an eastern cotton of some sort. Perhaps Egyptian?

I was thinking of an Arabian carpet.

Ah, well. Back on topic. These kids are really desperate to get attention here. They hook on to any possible ledge to start a new theory.

Was gonna say that, but i'm not sure if it's actually called Arabian carpet, but anyway.

I agree, personally I love hearing new theories, that make sense. I learn a lot more from debating and keeping an open mind than I do from agreeing all the time. But the half-baked stuff that pops up is too common..

Yes, giant llamas, while highly entertaining, is about as likely as Time Travel being part of the story. The point I'm making is that you vehemently defend your position of Time Travel not being a factor while citing evidence that leaves itself open to interpretation. This kind of discussion is probably more appropriate in a PM, but we've come this far so why not? Again, I agree with you that Time Travel would be a weak tool for storytelling and will hopefully not be a part of Halo: Reach.

I would love to dual wield banana slingshots though. :)

As of now, the "facts" are rather few in number.

Thank you...soooooo much...but ya know they still defend themselves as being right because it's human to do so when one is wrong no matter what...some of it will be narcasism...some just irk people... other people will say oh ya time travel...cool (airheads)...having know clue...

I sort of watch in a kind of morbid curiosity at this behavior of this psychological failure to understand the truth...here...The truth of what the story is...The story of Reach, which does not include time travel...

Seriously dude, best idea ever!

Everytime someone creates a time travel thread my palm hits my face followed by my face hitting my desk.
your face goes through your palm?

Just rock to the rhythm of the funky Rhyme, So i can get busy just one more time.

(Please add to OP to further explain the theory behind slipspace.)
There is no possible way that going into slipspace could cause timetravel because of how it works. follow me on this analogy on the science behind slipspace.

Think of space like a map flat on a desk. If your finger travels straight across this flat map it would take a certain amount of time. Now say you folded this map vertically thus shortening the length from one end of the map to the other... Thats what slipspace is. Time does not slow down in slipspace and the ship is still traveling at regular speed, therefore time travel could not occur.

Furthermore, Einstein's theory of relativity stating that the closer you get to the speed of light the more time slows down for the traveler from a spectator's point of view does not apply because the ship is still traveling at its regular speed.(which is nowhere near the speed of light.)

Now hopefully slipspace will make a little more sense to even the simplest of time travel theorists.
