I hate to use your own quote against you, but in your quote by Staten it clearly says,
In the future we may choose to revise or flat-out ignore some of the less appealing ideas (Johnson's biological immunity to the Flood, for example), but folks should treat them as defining elements of the Halo universe.
By this statement alone you can't rule anything out. Even time travel. Personally, I don't think time travel will play a part in the game at all. More so I hope it doesn't. However, based on Staten's words, nothing at all can be 100% discounted.Sure, we can go with that. It also means that making giant llamas the primary enemies, attacking the planet wearing penguin roller skates and banana slingshots isn't discounted either. They're just about as likely.
Actually, less. Staten as personally stated he dislikes the Time Travel plot twists. Said quote is in the OP.
Yes, giant llamas, while highly entertaining, is about as likely as Time Travel being part of the story. The point I'm making is that you vehemently defend your position of Time Travel not being a factor while citing evidence that leaves itself open to interpretation. This kind of discussion is probably more appropriate in a PM, but we've come this far so why not? Again, I agree with you that Time Travel would be a weak tool for storytelling and will hopefully not be a part of Halo: Reach.
I would love to dual wield banana slingshots though. :)
