If only everyone would read this... Nice thread.

Then there are the people who poop in the mash potatoes. Those people get launched out on their asses.

I'm sure that the game will at the least follow the novel loosely. The problem is that no one has any sort of clue as to what this game is, further that a FPS (yes it is).

and it has been confirmed as a prequel.

Not to mention time travel is just weak. IMO it would completely ruin the Halo story if they did something like that. On top of that I don't think time travel is ever mentioned in the story line so it would be kinda weird.

Personally, I think the idea of time travel is ridiculous, and would be disgusted if Master Chief did in fact travel back in time at the end of Halo 3. However, I do want to point out that technically, if future John was the reason behind some of the events in FOR (I haven't read it, so cannot name any), it is possible that his presence does not affect any of the happenings in the book.

If you have read Harry Potter 3 (I'm ashamed of myself for it, but it is a good example), you will know what I mean.

Excellent thread chicken! Hopefully this will kill off all "time travel" threads.

Firstly, let me congratulate chicken on reaching an acceptable level of maturity. *applause*

Secondly, I agree 100% with this post. Time travel does not belong in the Halo universe. I would be greatly disappointed if Bungie decided to send MC back in time to the Reach events. Thankfully, it will not happen. The planet seen at the end of Halo 3 had Forerunner symbols over its surface, probably meaning that it is a Forerunner shield world. Even if it isn't, the idea of time travel is implausible and won't be used by Bungie in Reach.

Agreed improbible but not impossable. we already have proof of that. travel in space slows time and black holes take you back two to three years in age. not exactly time travel but getting close.

I have never heard this theory before. Have you been watching Stargate? >__>

anyone who argues that time travel is legitimate is a troll or flamer.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

THANKYOU FOR MAKING THIS TOPIC! This time-travel crap is starting to get REALLY annoying, cause IT'S NOT GONA HAPPEN!

Grats to chicken. he has my support 100%.

why not make 2 sign here topics, so you can nail your opinion to your flag, either for time travel or against it, just so we can revive it late next year and find out who was right and who was wrong, there will be too many i told you so's who were saying the oposite 12 months ago

That is an idea, but not a good one. It would be classified as spam, and Lord knows all the proven false theories are already cluttering it up enough.

Thanks to everyone who's read this, and I only ask that you help me keep it in eyesight of the theorists.

Here's my advice to you son, its a life lesson you shan't forget.

Some people are like Slinkies. They aren't good for anything in particular, but it still makes you smile when you push them down the stairs

Well lets hope that someone doesn't think of an incredabley well thought of Idea for the Time Travel Theory...

..but Mike did Try his Hardest to get a pretty indestructable idea...

..Yours was okay Chicken >:P

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

Bubba, do you have your chaingun ready? I'm getting a little excited about how these people will react to this thread.

But, I don't think we can rule out time travel just yet.

Ok. We're all entitled to our informed opinions. Please tell us why we can't rule out time travel (because, in the absence of any evidence, I've already ruled it out).

Well because time travel has already happened in the halo verse

what? when? how? proof?

Bubba, it was time dilation.

Komark, please don't start that up, m'kay? The people making these threads are already mislead enough.

It is entirely possible John could go to Reach in the past and not effect anything in the future games if he shows up AFTER the UNSC leave Reach. The UNSC assuming its completely and utterly destroyed but in reality the Covenant left patches of the planet un-glassed in order to search for Forerunner artifacts...but it is very unlikely.

I just cant see why Bungie would have John show up in the past, especially at Reach. It just doesn't make for a very good story IMO.

There were still Spartans left alive on REACH after the planet was glassed. The Covenant avoided the area around CASTLE base because of the Forerunner ruins down there. There isn't much they could do after without interacting with him before they all met up.

Well MC is pretty smart, he must have known the space time continuum would have collapsed and exploded had they seen or interacted with him...besides he is super sneaky, he probably hid in plain sight.

It was just some crazy idea I threw out there, I refuse to limit myself to one theory so I wont rule out time travel until Bungie comes out and says "Time travel does not exist within the Halo universe." And yes they must say it like that word for word or its no good. We have very limited information on this game and the Halo universe for that matter so as far as I am concerned anything and everything is possible until proven otherwise.

Yes there is way too many time traveling theories that are just repeats of each other but no need to rain on anyone's parade. Who knows who or what is right or who or what is wrong, that is part of the fun. Speculations are just speculations and none of us will know anything until we get our hands on the game.

  • 06.07.2009 3:07 PM PDT

That's not what I'm trying to prevent here.

There are just too bloody many of the exact same theory, or an utterly impossible or incomprehensible theory every 20 minutes, that it's -blam!- ridiculous.
