Well said. Halo:Reach needs to follow the canon, not dismiss it. Furthermore, even if Bungie is interested in rewriting some of the currently held canon...why would they do it with time travel? That would be the most cliche thing ever and make for an awful story.

Lets go over the two planets shall we?

Reach: Glassed by the Covenant. Inhabitable after glassing due to the temperatures and possibly damaged atmosphere. Will eventually become a dessert world.

Legendary Planet: Has obvious structures. Is not inhabited save by, perhaps, machines or a primitive species or possibly both. Why? Because why on earth would any species allow for a ship like the Dawn to enter their atmosphere and crash into their world? They would have A) Checked the ship, checked for life and B) would have probably blasted it out of the sky so as to not cause potential harm to the planet.

Those together = No Time travel.

Furthermore, the trailer for Halo:Reach says "From the Beginning, you know the End." That there is solid evidence of a consistent timeline. Furthermore, it says "Halo:Reach falls 2010." Lets look at that carefully..."Reach falls." We know this to be true. Its all right there....

"The strength of the pack is the wolf, the strength of the wolf is the pack."

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me..."

ODST for life

That's not what I'm trying to prevent here.

There are just too bloody many of the exact same theory, or an utterly impossible or incomprehensible theory every 20 minutes, that it's -blam!- ridiculous.
I agree with you, it feels like there is a new time travel theory thread every 15 seconds and most of them are more or less the same thing. We need to have a sticky thread that covers or at least provides links to the threads of different time travel theories that are well written and thought out so we stop getting so many repeats.

Starting to feel a bit like the Halo 3 forum. *shudders*

Roadkill31495, the biggest -blam!- you'll ever meet

Thank you for posting this, people need to learn time travel is one of the most retarded theory we have ever heard. It is obviously about the Fall of Reach it even said it in the release date "Halo:Reach (falls) 2010".

  • 06.07.2009 3:31 PM PDT

Totally agreed. this would make the series less realistic and will make halo suck ( if thats possible)

  • 06.07.2009 3:32 PM PDT

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Time travel theory is stupid.

I dont know how many more times I have to post this until people stop considering this theory.

@Vigilnt sniper

Ok, really.. normally I don't post in these forums, but this just makes me enter nerdmode

A black hole is a huge mass compressed in a very small space causing an enormous gravitational field, so getting sucked into it would probably kill you...

And the theory you're trying to refer to is called time dilation, it says that time will go slower for you when you move at a faster speed relative to another person

there

Not to go crazy over this time travel thing either. Honestly, I'd rather not have it happen unless it's smart, and really well planned out. It's still possible that he time traveled to reach.

Him time traveling could be the reason why Master Chief took place in the Reach events in the first place. There lots of things that contradict this but there are stuff that make it possible. You can not just say it's impossible for this to happen. It is possible, whether you like it or not.

I'd rather not be the MC again honestly. Don't get me wrong I love the Chief. But there's always a mystery to him and i'd rather have him be in a totally different story if another halo with him pops up. I wanna be a different spartan with a fresh story.

I've said this already. We don't need to completely stop time travel theories, but at least limit their frequency and similarities somewhat.

GT: Clerks

One way or the other, it is upsetting that with two new Halo games (ODST and Reach), Bungie will not be continuing the story line, so much as fleshing it out.

In my opinion, the first two Halo games do not reveal much of the actual Halo-verse. We can go back and retroactively appreciate the plots more fully, but the games do not expose very much.

So, while I do not doubt that both ODST and Reach occur before Halo 3, I would have rather seen ODST and Halo 4, or Reach and Halo 4. Two semi-prequels are hard for me to become excited about when 117 is the only character I really have a connection with.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

I agree with you in relation to this, but I don't thiink I would liek Bungie to adopt Fall of Reach as perfect "Canon". I would rather see them deviate from some things there. After all its just a book. Why not have Mark VI come out for the Spartans on the ground of reach? Health packs don't work well in multi-player IMO. And in the gaming community's opinion too, because multi-playeer games rarely have "health" any more.

I added the interview where Joseph Staten told HBO that the Nylund novels were Canon. Link added as well.

Certainly some things will deviate from the book's plotline, but the general gist of it should be the same, provided we follow the Spartans' perspectives.

Amen to that. ODST will be a fresh story, and I hope, for all its familiarity (to those who know the book and events), that Reach is as well.

Then there are the people who poop in the mash potatoes. Those people get launched out on their asses.

Doc Brown: "Master Chief! We have to go back to the future!"

MC: What is it Doc? Do we turn into -blam!-s or something"?

Doc Brown: "Its Not about you, its about your children"

MC: "We'll your gonna need to back up. Not enough road"

Doc: "Roads? Where we are going we don't need roads".

'Going back in time' is just cheating... Like in Superman II.

  • 06.07.2009 6:58 PM PDT

Heroes are always rememberd but spartans never die

Finally an intelligent human being. Its so annoying to hear people say "OMG i r so smart chief go back in time thats why this is the new halo" first of the chief going back in time is completely irrelevant to the story. If the chief went back in time he wouldnt be able to do a single thing about it maybe warn them of the inevitable destruction of reach but thats about it. Secondly if you notice the planet at the end of halo 3 seems more machine like than earth like. Thirdly the frigate in the beginning of the reach trailer is a damaged/destroyed frigate that is STILL WHOLE. Fourthly the chief did not do anything special at the end of halo 3, he just didnt make the wormhole in time and the frigate he was on simply got cut in half. SO again thank you for putting this out there and hopefully this silences anyone that thinks the chief "time traveled"

chickenlitte, I'm sorry to tell you that what you have done is in vain. You see, I spent my entire weekend fighting off these theories. But...to no avail.

Sanjeev, what I am doing is not fighting. Fighting them is moot.

This is to limit the damage, as they usually only read topics after they post. This is when this thread comes into play.
