I also like the quote where Joe Staten calls time travel corny and implies that it steps too far outside the boundaries of the Halo Universe.

I'd like to use this quote. Do you know where it is located?

Same interview that's linked to in the first post where Joe Staten says the novels are canon.

HSP: 'Time travel' has been decried by some readers as one of the more hackneyed plot devices in story telling. The events of Sep 7, 2552 at Reach provide ample possibility of that device being employed in Halo 2. What comments do you have in regards to time travel, Halo 2, and storytelling in general? [Or, paraphrased] Time travel is a little corny, don't you think?

JS: Absolutely. Teleportation is a different matter, however. Used sparingly, it works great as a plot-device without stepping too far outside the hard sci-fi boundaries of the Halo universe.

PPPPPP--POWER!

A legitimate claim chickenlittle. I agree with you that time travel is out of the question because like you said it would change the plot line of every Halo game on the market. Most developers aren't going to make a game that would simply tear apart 8 years of hard work.

and how!

Thank you for making this thread...if I saw one more of those crazy theories I was either going to have to hit myself with a crowbar or make one of these myself. Saved me some work and/or bodily injury :D

Far as I know, they started working on the first Halo in the 90's. It was originally for Mac.

Also, thanks for posting that quote!

it's kinda like starwars.. it was cool.. till they added Aniken.. when he was 9 he was mature bet when he was 20 he acted like a two year old.. i don't get how that is suposed to be cool..

time travle would have a simaler affect to halo... it would ruin it.

I hate to defend time travel theories and their creators, but there's an obvious flaw in your post.
What if the events in the Fall of Reach were caused because of John traveling back in time?

whell that would mean that the story would change over and over again.. cause then he would go back and fix his mistakes over and over again.. and there isent any evidence suporting he did go back (thank god) we realy don't want this to be like a niktoons TV show..

He can't go back by choice. IF (emphasis on the IF) he was sent back in time to the battle of Reach, the events there could've turned out that way because he was there. Meaning, in time, he allready went back. Everything in the Halo series could be the way it is BECAUSE he went back. It's not that hard to understand,

Except we already know REACH fell. And that John was gone for a short while at the end of the main fighting. And that he was not involved in anything important, as mentioned in the novel.

Occam's Razor. The simplest Solution is usually the correct one. That would be the events that we know unfolded.

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

I'm talking about Halo 3's John. What if things happened that way because he was sent back through time? For example, if he wasn't sent back in time, maybe Reach never would've fell. Maybe the Covenant would've been stopped on the first Halo. Do you understand what i'm saying?

I am. And it makes absolutely no sense. REACH's location was discovered in the aftermath of a Human victory in a fleet battle. Spartans have little to nothing to do with the Navy and its tactics.

Nor could a single Spartan do much against the several dozen Covenant capital ships that survived the attack, nor their several dozen reinforcements, nor the 300-ship-strong fleet.

But, again Occam's Razor.

I'll dumb it down a bit.
Future goes to Past.
Past events occur because of Future.
Past becomes Present.
Present becomes Future.
Future goes to past.
One word : Paradox.

(I had a longer post, but i lost internet and lost it, so, this'll do.)

See, if all Halo's events happened because of Master Chief going back in time (Hell, i'm not saying he directly caused them.), then we wouldn't know, cause that's canon. And if history repeats it'self, Chief will continuously go back in time, causing these events to happen continuously. Sure, it's confusing, but also simple.

you can put sprinkels on a pile of crap but you'll still have a pile of crap. that is wahat your theory sounds like. stop trying to reinvent the wheel, go read the books, get a clearer understanding, and let bungie do their thing.

I've read all the books. I think the time travel theory is improbable if not impossible. If you don't understand what i'm saying, don't post, nor insult me or my theories. Now, unless you wish to discuss this situation privately, or unless you wish to make an intelligent response to my simple theory, drop it. (Heh, ODST pun.)

Zero - It's not that I disagree or don't understand, rather, I'm having difficulty explaining myself for some reason today.

I am king!!!

I dont think bungie would do that... I mean look at terminator, 1st and 2nd were awesome. then all of a sudden a 3rd comes out and your like wow they might actually stop sky net then it was like a slap to the face "JK!!! judgement day really happens!!!!" and you just stare at the screen going wtf....

So really, do you think Bungie would do something like that? After they left cliff hangers in the books and now in Halo 3. No my friends Halo isn't over yet. :)

I expect that it's a lack of knowledge of the Haloverse and lack of taking the time to think it out. Most of the theories likely come from those who have only played Halo 3, and maybe Halo 2.

If you haven't read the novels, you'll have absolutely no idea what REACH is, even if you've seen the opening cinematic in Halo: CE.

That, and for some reason, people really don't want a game without Master Chief, regardless of how bland a character he truly is.

I'm personally very excited to play as a different Spartan.
