Subject: Dear Time Travel Theorists

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

I'm suprised the time-travel theory got so out of hand that people actually had to make threads combatting them. Though I suppose this situation is somewhat a microcosm of the world we live in - someone makes an idiotic idea and everybody follows. Its a sad state if affairs...

Nevertheless, nice thread, well pointed out. I doubt this will stop these stupid threads, but at least its a bastion of common sense we can hide in if the idiots flood the forum.

"IF"?

I just hope some can read this thread.

However, if somebody starts up a theory, they can all pretend they made it themselves and try and take credit for it. That's how this works.

Heroes are always rememberd but spartans never die

I doubt bungie would make halo this complicated im sure they are just going to continue with the fall of reach because the time ot takes to create a whole new story and the time it takes to create a visual of a story that has already been made is a lot simpler with the working on halo odst and attempting a 2010 fall release of halo: reach i would assume they are just going to stick with the story

-blam!- the Free World!!!!

I'm right there with ya, chicken. I used to be one of those idiots suggesting time travel but I realized how stupid and bias I was being and finally dropped it. Good job I hope everyone will finally realize like i did.

If you haven't read the novels, you'll have absolutely no idea what REACH is, even if you've seen the opening cinematic in Halo: CE.

my point exactaly

Then there are the people who poop in the mash potatoes. Those people get launched out on their asses.

Somewhat off topic, and I know this game is a FPS, but I think Reach would make an excellent setting for an RPG type of game, in the vane of say KOTOR, or Mass Effect

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

No. No it wouldn't. Halo was meant to be an FPS. Halo Wars kinda pushed it with the whole RTS. I realize it was a pretty big hit, but seriously, IMO it was only a big hit because is was a Halo game.

I don't support the time travel theories, and I agree with OP 110%. But you have to admit....if the story is some time travel BS'ery it's going to be funny as hell. The time travelers are going to have a field day with this topic.

I'll dumb it down a bit.
Future goes to Past.
Past events occur because of Future.
Past becomes Present.
Present becomes Future.
Future goes to past.
One word : Paradox.

(I had a longer post, but i lost internet and lost it, so, this'll do.)

See, if all Halo's events happened because of Master Chief going back in time (Hell, i'm not saying he directly caused them.), then we wouldn't know, cause that's canon. And if history repeats it'self, Chief will continuously go back in time, causing these events to happen continuously. Sure, it's confusing, but also simple.

The only problem with this is that canon already exists. To imply that MC went back at some point in time and altered the past to play out as we know it is to change canon. There has never been any mention of an exploit by any Spartan outside of the origional Spartan II class. MC wouldn't just go into the past and operate under another identity, this is not a movie.

Consider also how Cortana would view something like this, having the knowledge she has after the events of Halo3. She would not sit idle, she would come forward and turn the tide. The idea of time travel, no matter how it is implement is flawed and not to mention it is a weak method to tell a story.

As it has been said by many, and myself on several of these threads, time travel does not fit into the Halo universe, even the writer of the better novels agrees with that notion.

Couldn't have said it better myself, TRIX.

"YOUR DESTRUCTION IS THE WILL OF THE GODS, AND WE ARE THEIR INSTRUMENT."

I'd argue, but it'd be pointless, and would be a waste of my time. Everyone's theory deserves some defense, and mine was just not good enough. Well played.
Wow, is it me or do i sound wierd right now?

Nope that all seems to make sense. Although it's rare for people on the internet to admit they're wrong.

It's not an issue of a theory not being good enough, and it certainly isn't personl. Part of presenting a theory is having the ability to accept logical and reasonable explanations as to why that theory may not work. That is the point of a debate is it not?

Believe me i've had theories shot down several times in the past, it's a learning experience.

Quite true, those are the people that don't view corrections and critique as anything more than conficting opinions that should be flammed and ignored.

If you don't like my driving, get off the sidewalk.

I completely agree with this, the Time Travel theorist are outta hand. But if by some miracle they are right I will:

Buy the game and burn the CD, use the ashes to fertilize some tomatoes, cut up said tomatoes and feed them to my dog, then when he poops put said poop into a paper bag, set it on fire, and leave on Bungie headquarters doortstep.

Just keep that in mind Bungie

  • 06.09.2009 4:51 PM PDT

Oh yeah It's Rayzed.

I was laughing at the time travel theory until someone made it plausible. But I still don't see it at as the best answer. Plausible is the only way to put it. Still very unlikely that events would change.

Generally it is a dumb theory though. Just because you see a broken Frigate doesn't mean It's Chief's. If it was, it wouldn't be for long. Covenant scav units would have torn him apart the second they saw him. It is just another broken frigate.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Time-travel theory is stupid.

I'm going to continue saying that until it dissapears off the 'theory' list.

No, no multiplayer. Single only. Explore the planet. Go through training. Fight amongst your partners. It would be epic.

That might be, but what about the huge large-scale battles?

Huge battles in which you can run around dodging plasma mortars, shooting at an infinite army of Covenant soldiers as you and your teammates fight through the battle of reach? Epic.
