Halopedia -- The Definitive Source for Halo information

The thing about Halo is that the developers don't want the story to be hard to understand. A time travel situation would just cause a paradox (Chief stops the events of Halo and therefore stops himself from getting in the other half of the Dawn and stopping the events of Halo etc).

To use an example of confusing timelines with time travel, here's Zelda.

Zelda Ocarina of Time did indeed have a direct sequel, but because of Link's time traveling, he opened up two timelines that Zelda fans constantly argue about. Branched storylines are confusing and would just make Halopedia's job very difficult.

Halo isn't supposed to be confusing, it's supposed to be a sci-fi universe that makes sense.

Thank you. Time travel is impossible unless separate universes are involved. Which gets too complicated for a simple video game.

if bungie puts time travel in the game they should know some of the fans may try to castrate them.

I hope they do something nobody expects

Somewhat off topic, and I know this game is a FPS, but I think Reach would make an excellent setting for an RPG type of game, in the vane of say KOTOR, or Mass Effect

No. No it wouldn't. Halo was meant to be an FPS. Halo Wars kinda pushed it with the whole RTS. I realize it was a pretty big hit, but seriously, IMO it was only a big hit because is was a Halo game.

If Reach was an RPG/RTS/TPS(possibly), then it would only be a big hit because of the name and/or the story. People would buy it, play it through once or maybe twice, play some multiplayer, but then go back to the FPS's multiplayer.

No, no multiplayer. Single only. Explore the planet. Go through training. Fight amongst your partners. It would be epic.
That might be, but what about the huge large-scale battles?

I certainly wouldn't mind the story progression being handled like they are in RPGS, however I don't see how leveling would work in a Halo game. The Spartans are what they are, the same goes for every soldier in the UNSC. Now if you were gonna change the format from ground engagements to fleet engagements I could see this work. You start out as a crewman and work your way up the latter to command your own ship. But again within the Halo universe it would be a tough implement.

Personally I thought the RTS format worked out rather well, all things considered. Sure there are improvements to be made, but they did a really good job with it, especially it being a console RTS.

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

hmmm about the RPG/ RTS deal

what if it is like you are on the ground and you can make choices like make an assault on an artilery base or wait for re enforcements.... you know simple tactics easily chosen.. cause your choses are layed out like a RPG but you are makeing miltary choces like an RTS...

feel free to correct and improve my idea.... or jab it with a stick...

Hmm, if i'm understanding you correctly it sounds like your requesting something similar to the aristrike system used in COD4 or something of that nature correct? Don't see why that would be too much of an issue, but I think the bigger problem would be working in RPG elements into a property like this.

Thanks for making this, we definitely needed a huge thread to explain to the time travel theorists what is probably happening. It gets annoying listening to them saying that Masterchief traveled back in time at the end of Halo 3...

I'm reading the first Halo novels right now ;)
What he said, Reach was just getting attacked in the trailer, its quite obivous that it takes place in the book.

I am 100% positive Master Chief will be in this game. Time travel is the only plausible explanation at the moment.

If you did actually see the halo 3 ending, the only explanation is Master Chief and half of the Forward Onto Dawn did get sucked back through the portal, taking them into another universe. This universe could be 100's of years in the past.

And I doubt bungie will follow the novel completely.

there is no way to know if chief is in this game... this could take place just after the pillar of autum left...

and in the trailer it wasent spartan 117 talking...

and why cant the planet in the legendary ending just be another forruner instalation?

and if it is reach.. what happend to all of that tech? did it disapear? the halo rings dident get rid of it.. the flood would have no reson to... and any flood in that area would have been killed when the halo rings went off..

if that is reach it would have to be when the forruners were still doing there forruner buisnes..
and that means the rings are going to be fired... oh wait let me geus we are all decendants of master chief...wich is also our decendent... kinda nasty..

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

For the last few posts:

Spartan 117 was involved in the Battle of REACH, briefly. Read the OP for explanation.

In GoO, I believe it says 5 people from Gamma and X-Ray are in the Slipspace Field Pods, but their just projections and their real selves could be anywhere or any time... 5, which fits the shadows.

Proof: 3rd Paragraph

I didn't look too far into this, so it will probably still be shot down, but thoughts?
Indeed, Slipspace is not like regular Space, and is not bound to Time. Those SIII's could be at any time, but that is not very likely. More likely is that they are simply in a Slipspace field, and thus, out of phase with everything else, leaving them invulnerable to harm.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

Have you ever made something good out of something bad? An example would be making a good porridge out of a bad porridge by removing all of the maggots and replacing them with rice.

CHEERS!
this is what we needed lol too many people all think "portal=time travel and spartan=masterchief ZOMG TIME TRAVEL HALO!"
it gets old, so thank you for this thread, plus you refrenced another thread saying the same thing to back youself up and share credit, major props, major props indeed.
the only reason i could see time travel happening in the game is if one way or another bungie decided to ignore the books entirely and i would bet that would be a tough sell for them (purely my opinion on that one)
but no, i dont think that will happen.

+1 cookie for you

And what in terms of proof do you have that can help this become credible? Have you read the relevant novels? Do you understand what is happening in both the games and the novels?

Unless you can answer those questions, all you have is a ridiculous fanboy wanton hope.
