ODST for life
So Ive been watching the opening cut scene a few times and I find the conversation between Dare and Buck to be pretty interesting. You can watch it here...
Opening Hotness
From the sounds of it Dare and Buck have been on a previous mission together and the ODST's from that mission were killed and these guys are replacements since they have last seen each other. Which brings up the question what exactly is their previous relationship?
Dare also says "at least they listen" which Buck responds with "to me". Does this hint that on their previous mission or missions that the ODST's under Bucks control disobeyed orders and were killed? Or possibly followed the orders of Dare and were killed? Interesting either way since it makes you wonder if you can really trust either of them.
And from the conversation they (Romeo, Mickey, Dutch) have while standing next to the weapons rack and some lines during the drop they don't know that they are going somewhere else other then the the Carrier until they drop. Now why exactly wouldn't Buck tell them where they were going before the drop? It doesn't make much sense to me why a squad leader would withhold mission info from his squad. Yet another reason not to trust Buck or Dare.
Also, what could possibly be more important then the Covenant ship? (as Buck tries to point out) The ship had a Prophet on board and its not like the location of Earth was relevant anymore, and I am sure the locations of the remaining colonies wasn't the highest on their priority list either. And why wasn't the chief sent after this seemingly super important stuff instead of some ODST's and an Oni officer?
If you have read the new Halo book, The Cole Protocol, you know of the project Exodus that they were creating as a fallback plan. Is it possible the UNSC had created their own Exodus project? Possibly even found a Forerunner shield world to evacuate to? Or maybe plans/production facility of some new weapon or armor for the UNSC army that would have turned the tides in the war. That could explain the Recon armor Dare is wearing. Possibly something to do with the SI?
Just some food for thought, I found the opening cut scene to be very interesting that sparked lots of thoughts in my head and just wanted to post some of thoughts and thought process for everyone to read (if you actually read all of that pointless blabber). Discuss your own theories and thoughts. Let the speculation begin.
