If we could do that, I would do one on installing new maps for CE. I am still amazed at how incompetent people are with this.

or, what we could do is create a win zip archive that automatically extracts the files to the halo custom edition/maps folder

and don't assume that all i wanted to help you with were the screenshots. anything you need help with, just call on me

I might just take you up on that.

I have already discussed the self extracting archive point with Leoht, but have come to the conclusion that it's just not worth it. First of all, not everyone decides to install to the default directory (l don't...), which would make it a pain for anyone who prefers things setup a little different. I thought maybe I could run these self extractoers along side the normal .rar's, but that would just eat up disk space and I'm not exactly certain how much space I have yet...

The video tutorials are a no I'm afraid. If you're up for typing 'How To's' with screenshots, that's fine, but video's are just too demanding on bandwidth to justify. On top of that, certain people would target the bigger files to try and hurt the site. The size of video's, even small one's soon mount up and that is the reason I never really hosted any before...

Nice ideas though, keep 'em coming.

You may also want to put modding tools on your site, for anyone who is interested.

Modding tools for what?

If you say Halo PC you need to be SHOT!

Edit: That probably sounds a little harsh, but the site will be for Halo CE and not modding Halo PC. I want to help CE not deal another blow...

I don't think there are any modding tools for halo CE (or any that i've found)

Once again muffmeister thanks for the reopening and what host are you using, because the HUGE bandwidth must need a good host.

(You told us not to use 1&1 so i dont think you are using them)

well you could put halo PC modding tools on the site, as long as you include the pc--->ce converter that allows you to open halo CE maps in HMT and sparkedit
ooh, and you should include mapmanager on you site, and possibly halo spy ce

I included the Map Manager, Init.txt Builder, Delaggonnator and CE Gametype Fix before, and will be doing so again this time.

I didn't bother with Halo Spy though because I could never get it to work properly.

How would you like the tutorials written? Word document?

Err, actually that seems like a good idea...

That way people can download them if they wish. They will also be on the site, but it's always nice not to have to have a webpage up all the time...

Good call.

fyi, word documents are bloated with extra info, would save bw to use something else, like html in a zip, so they dl them then view them

i'm looking forward to grabbing those maps before the site inevitably goes down again, thus the threads start about the site closing, and "i don't even know why i bother!!!!" posts from muff like in the past. ranting and raving...claiming to leave the forum due to frustration over the site. thumbs up to success! :)

having "no doubts" over what i'm trying is very dumb-founded muff, especially since you're living at distance to london; you just couldn't possibly know :) so i appreciate your statements attempting to fob off concerns, but only time will tell. and i'm sure you realise that too.

Idryll, i don't do this often, but STFU!!

fine, you don't like the fact that people are respecting and being nice to muff. that's because he's trying to help the comunity. maybe if you tried being helpful, instead of being trying to insult muff, you might actualy get a friend or two.

however, what you say has a sliver of truth. i doubt that in 100 years, when most of us will be dead, that anyone will be paying the fees to keep that website up.

Idryll, I really think you should just leave these forums and die. The world doesn't need another person like you, there's enough already. Tell me why you hate muff?

Whatever man (that's assuming you ARE a man...). Get a life.

Regardless of what you might think that you're achieving, you aren't getting anywhere. If you were, you wouldn't be here spouting crap. You'd just be getting on with it instead of being foolish by exposing yourself.

Just one last thing... anyone can read my profile here on Bungie.net...

Well, enough of your attempts at starting a flame war, I reported you to the mods, and hopefully something will be done.

Probably nothing will be done... I'm not saying that the mods won't take notice, but at the end of the day he's being carefull how he says stuff. Shame there isn't the ability to search for previous posts on this forum, eh?

Anyway, moving on :)

I have hosting for the site and files are now being transferred. I doubt that things will take quite as long as I first imagined, but things are still a way off yet... we are going in the right direction though and that's all that counts.

Well, it isn't the same kind of thing this time round.

A 'friend of a friend' made me an offer I just couldn't refuse! The deal I'm now using costs a little more than the previous package I had, but believe me, it's worth it. Obviously I don't want to say too much, but suffice to say I'm happy.

You will need to sign up again to be able to download files, but I can't see that being a problem as nobody minded before. Things should be back to fully operational in the near future... I'm just finishing uploading the map files as I type. Only 157mb remaining out of a few GB... Phew!

The FORUM is fully functional (if somewhat barren!) already, so if anyone wants to make an early show...

Due to my inexperience with CE (not to mention modding it), I did not know that there were no specific modding tools other than the HEK for CE.

In any case, Just here for a moral support, keep it going Muff. A forum is a great Idea (although it was probably already there. I never (well, once) went so I don't know the previous layout), get a community started (although it will probably be the majority of the people here, + a few others).

Any luck on those files (converted to mac)? I can ask around if need be.
