i never thought of this, but a lot of what your saying make sense, it just doesn't seem very probable. With that aside, even however plausable your idea is, it does seem a bit corny and it would be difficult to make a good game (as good as or better than halo 3) out of without nerds like me rolling their eyes and telling the tv to "shut up and let me play the -blam!-ing game already", like the cortana flashes in the beginning levels of halo 3.

Although I am going to have to disagree in the entertainment portion of your theorey, I'll keep it in mind :)

ty AND THANK GOD SOME1 UNDERSTANDS . . .so do me a favor PREACH TO THEM NERD CHILD, PRECH! cause I can't explain this much longer . . .200 pt. essays and Halo 3 topics don't mix well . . (oh look Da Vinci and Master Chief in the same sentence)

I completely agree. Destroying Earth and it's inhabitants was a secondary objective. In H3. Truth was too busy with the ark and the Great Journey. He didn't care about killing the humans or the "Demon", but just getting them out of the way. I'm guessing he underestimated the strength of the Human-Elite war pact.

Again over 20 years a lot can change, stars can die and new ones can be born (including time from before . . just saying that a lot can happen in that short loop of time), also bungie may have had the ecliptic refraction occur with a different star that was near and not over powered by the red star.
*NOTE* in the star cycle if the red star of reach is a red giant on the brink of death a new blue star can take it's place.

Your theory was somewhat plausible up until then... Anyone keen on astrology correct me, but if the red star was at the end of its life cycle (because thats the only it could change in 20 years). That would mean that its energy release would be a)Minimal and b)decreasing rapidly until the blue star was formed. That would mean that the entire planet would have to be covered in an environmental system to keep the planet at optimal temperature - a bit far fetched even for the 26th century.

And thats only the heat aspect, there would be numerous other problems with a dying star in your system. I think people are over analysing this way to much - TFOR was an awesome book, easily the best in terms of action. It would make plenty of sense for Bungie to use a known storyline and base the game off that. It took roughly 3 years for each of the other games to be developed. Take into account the fact that a relatively small team has been working on Reach and that ODST is being worked on concurrently this would mean that Bungie would need existing work to build off as trying to develop a new storyline would probably make it a 2011 game.

Thus the base storyline for Reach is most likely the one in TFOR. It may not follow the stories of the mainline SPARTANS (Fred, Kelly, John, Linda, Will etc) but the general jist will be there.

Can u summarize that in 3 year old terms so I can put it in the main Theory? :D

"When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give EL1TE SUPR3MACY lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

I doubt it. The Legendary planet is Forerunner in composition, as evident by all the the large glowing Forerunner emblems that encompass the planet. I would imagine that it would be a Shield World, much like the one in The Ghosts of Onyx or possibly Halo Wars.

This is the best analysis of the Legendary Planet I've seen so far.

Reached was glassed. When glassed, buildings/structures are destroyed.

Legendary ending planet, you can see structures.

Planets are NOT the same.

So your saying that over the span of about 40 years (correct?) the advanced covenant could not have built on top of a planet they glassed? I mean even the flood can do that . . . . . (no im not saying that flood can build structures . . but still).
Im sure that some sort of advanced life can make a home on virtually nothing . .

it hasnt been 40 years since reach was glassed, reach was glassed right before halo ce, in the begining of halo ce, the pillaar of autum just warped away from reach as it was being attaked by the covies, the time line from halo ce to halo3 is only a year or 2 tops, so the legendary ending planet cannot be reach.

  • 06.08.2009 7:21 PM PDT

OMG, I'm not completly sure where this star nonsense is coming from but what I do know is that the planet at the end of halo 3 is not reach, it's impossible as it has signs of life and second of all halo 3's ending happens about 6-8 months after the fall of reach so no new star will have be formed from that time from, if you had bothered to read my post on page three you would have known that. I have no idea where people are getting 20 years from like seriously.

  • 06.08.2009 7:22 PM PDT

in the trailer, when bungie says "from the beginning, you knew the end", they were probably talking about "you" being the gamer, not the character in the game, just my take

Ummm, basically the Sun - being close to "out of gas" (because it would have to be that close for a changeover to happen over 20 years) would be losing energy very quickly. That means the guys on Reach would have to make a massive planet-heater to just to keep the planet at room tempereature. From reading the books - it didn't look like Reach had that problem. So basically having the star change from red to blue in a mere 20 years (Sun cycles last millions/billions/trillions of years) is out of the question. I doubt the H3 planet is anywhere near Reach.

HOO-RAH!!

no reach is not the legendary ending because reach is in the beginning of the halo story line. if you saw the trailer the planet is getting glassed by covenant and the spartans come in to protect reach to the best of their abilities. read Halo: fall of reach and you would know that this is going to be the precursor to Halo CE.

no i mean the thing on my first post, about how there could be an advanced pioneer species that is new to halo that live off of glassed planets

Oh my God yes, someone else who knows what they are talking about

Edit-- I just noticed the part on the pioneer species, while I do give you props on creativity, I'd have to say your wrong, considering the lights at the end resemble forerunner symbols

If it was reach the UNSC would find the chief and he could go home and get married and have little chieflets with crotana.

There would be no game because the UNSC would not have any missions for him

Epsilon Eridani is a relatively young star, about 3.5-4 billion years younger than our Sun. It is not a Red Giant.

lengendary ending may lead to ghosts of onyx because in the book that planet was dark and an entire shield planet. and nope i didn't read your other thread.

Kurt was killed by two nukes, and because the books are canon, MC won't be saving him. ; )

  • 06.08.2009 8:12 PM PDT

Your logic is flawed... Spartans never die.

  • 06.08.2009 8:24 PM PDT

Hi everyone........setting here waiting for Reach............am all alone..........somebody help me( nah not really ;-] ) lol

it would be perfect that they both say that after they crashed landed on reach

  • 06.08.2009 8:33 PM PDT

OK, do you guys want to know why that planet cannot be Oynx, lololololoolololololol, and its funny I have to explain this, but Onyx was destroyed, the planet exploded, and like a billion sentinals came out of it and pwned the hell out of the Covenant that had come to that system. Secondly there is no chance in hell that Kurt can be saved, because he killed himself in order to protect the remaining Spartans and company who had just ventured into a shield world. And for the guy that said "Spartans never die" if you had any idea of what that statement really meant then you'd know that Spartans do in fact die, ONI or the people upstairs said to say that they cannot to keep morale high, becuase the way they say it is if a Spartan, the most kick ass warrior could die, then what chance would a normal soldier have, so they were listed as MIA or or wounded in combat when in fact they had actually fallen in battle.

Well, I would like to put a signature here, but I can't think of anything interesting and creative...?

Here is my take on EVERYTHING:

Halo: Reach - Follows the Reach storyline, just like the book "The Fall of Reach". THAT'S IT.

Halo 3 Legendary Ending- Planet is obviously Forunner, no one knows for sure. Bungie does stuff like that to leave room for more game titles etc.
Halo 3 Legendary Ending is irrelevant to Halo: Reach, but merely Bungie screwing with us ;D
