Subject: So about these maps...anybody know what's going on?

Before we begin I would like to point out that no, I am not referring to the Halo 3 Mythic Maps Heretic, Longshore, and Citadel.

Firefight. We've seen... what, two of the maps in Firefight, yes? Security Zone and the night time one in the city. So my question: Those maps look pretty cool- why not have those on the Multiplayer disk as well?

We know we're getting the second part of the Mythic Maps. But why have maps exclusive to Firefight? I'm not mad at Bungie or arguing about what they're doing or anything- I'm just curious as to if anybody knew a technical reason why these maps won't be available online and, if possible, would it be nice? I haven't heard anybody mention this yet but if an answer has been given I do apologize.

Cheers..

We should know better, because we are better.

Heretic is a midship remake.

The maps are extremely one-sided and wouldn't work in multiplayer.

Music is power.

I'm pretty sure that from a level design standpoint, the Firefight maps don't really flow the way the devs would want them to if they were regular multiplayer. There would probly have to be a major overhaul for stuff like spawns and weapon placement and all that.

I was thinking more along the lines of, say, Forged variants. Such one sided maps could be useful, no?

They don't need to put them in MM. For Half's point... perhaps just wipe all spawn points/weapons. Let people have free reign or something. It could very well be more complicated, but with what knowledge I have it doesn't seem like it.

I'm pretty sure that would be impossible. From what I've been hearing, Halo 3 ODST is running on the Halo 3 engine with modifications. So it would make sense that the two would be incompatible with each other. I would probably need paulmarv to shed some more light though. :D

I made a thread about this haha.

People seem to think that it could not work, but one simple way to allow forge variants would be to give the AI a code that tells them "Get to the player in the quickest manner" instead of giving them a set path.

More ways that this would work are in the thread I made. But whatever.

It would be good to open them up in forge; it would give you the chance to find lines of fire, shortcuts, choke points etc.

To be honest I can't pass judgement on whether these maps would work in MM until I've played them, but you're right, we do need more one sided objective maps.

This is true.

Well... ODST Multiplayer disk has three maps that aren't with Halo 3, right? So compatibility wouldn't be an issue. Especially considering these maps would never leave forge/ customs/ theater.

TW I wasn't really thinking along the lines of AI either. Just a blank map really.

the ODST multiplayer disk is NOT using the same engine as ODST, though. no modifications.

the multiplayer disk is JUST Halo 3 MM. the exact same we all know and love. so compatibility WOULD be an issue.

Including theater, forge, and customs. I'm well aware... so compatibility WOULD be an issue. No it wouldn't. How would adding maps cause a compatibility issue? They're already adding Heretic, Longshore, and Citadel. Those don't cause a compatibility issue. Why would these?

Funny how people always make excuses for Bungie. Yes it may be a modified engine. But they are releasing a whole new multiplayer disc. They could put damn near ANYTHING they wanted on it. And just have it be a seperate playlist people with regular Halo 3 could'nt use. But they are not. They are just adding 3 exclusive maps. For the most part ODST sounds like a rather lazy side project to me.

Behave! They couldnt do anything they wanted if they did people with the original multiplayer wouldnt be able to play againts odst multiplayer and splitting your fan base in competitive online tables isnt a smart move. (learn about how halo is programed and the file structure)

ODST is being made along side Reach you expect a smaller dev team to make 2 games at once and them both be up to previous calibre it took 3D realms 11 years for prey and 12 for Duke Nukem Forever (and that didnt come out)

Time and time again odst has been called a side project and a expansion of sorts and thats why if it was up to bungie it wouldnt be full retail get your facts right before you have a go

But not as much as I hate the internet.

Forge will not be available on the Fire Fight maps, according to Joe Staten.

Yessir I'm aware of that, but thank you sir.

I was just curious as to why.

Four shots, four kills, reload, repeat. This is the work of a sniper.

From what I've seen, Most Firefight maps are very large and one-sided. Almost all maps in Halo's multiplayer would not work how it was intended for Firefight. I like that they are getting their own maps. And all maps for multiplayer don't support random phantom's flying in and don't support that kind of AI, as far as I know.
Of course, this is just my reasoning behind it.
