Others have suggested this and as I have just stated in several other threads, its highly unlikely, damn near impossible.
If the Legendary planet is Reach, then it would certainly involve some really interesting cover story by bungie.
The Legendary planet is covered with structures that look machine like. It obviously isn't inhabited by any sentient life other than perhaps primitive beings. Why? Because any space-faring species would have A) Checked the Dawn for life / threats and B) Would have shot it out of the sky so it wouldn't crash into the planet and cause potential harm.
Reach itself was glassed meaning the atmosphere is shot to hell. If it still is habitable, the terrain will obviously not be suitable for life. No water...no plantlife...the only thing that could occur is that one day it may turn into a dessert planet.
If the Master chief were by some chance approaching Reach, he would have been floating in space for a loooooong time. Cortana has no idea where they are. Plus, she drops a beacon. The chief, if he were floating anywhere near reach, would have been discovered and saved so long as Humanity was still in existence. Hell, even if the Elites were passing by. It seems illogical for Humanity to ignore that sector entirely. They would have had at the very least a scanning team there. It would have been hundreds upon thousands of years possibly if Master Chief was back at reach without it being about time travel. I doubt his cryo-freeze would have lasted that long. After all, Reach would have been lightyears away from their location at the end where Cortana says she has no idea where they are.
Its simply logic. If they were in the same system as Reach, Cortana would have admitted to knowing where they were.
Another thing I should bring up is that it can't even be about time travel. Again, Cortana would have known they were near Reach. Furthermore, the Trailer says "From the beginning you know the end" meaning it is staying with the continuity established. Furthermore it says "Reach Falls" in the trailler in the statement "Halo:Reach Falls 2010." The wording was obviously that for a reason.
