Since the presentation of the Halo Reach teaser trailer, fans have been quick to make assumptions about the game's background story. The two contending theories at this point I believe are:
+Master Chief time travels after the events of Halo 3 to the events previous to Halo: Combat Evolved and ends up outside of Reach's orbit before most of the planet was glassed
and
+Halo Reach is nothing more than a prequel
I decided to check the Legendary ending of Halo 3 (for the 50th something time) and typed out the dialouge Master Chief and Cortana exchange ofter the ship is sheared in half (please remember that these are not direct quotes but its pretty damn close)
Cortana: I thought I lost you too...
MC: What happened?
Cortana: I'm not sure... When Halo fired, it shook itself to pieces, and a number on the
Arc. The portal couldn't sustain itself. We made it through just as it collapsed... Well
some of us made it... But you did it... Truth and the Covenant... The Flood, its finished...
MC: Its finished...
Cortana: I'll drop the beacon but it will be a while before anyone finds us... years even...
I'll miss you
MC: Wake me... When you need me...
Now please remember that Cortana is a very complex AI capable of maneuvering warships, setting coordinates through slipspace in matter of seconds, decoding alien languages not to mention ride shotgun to none other than the Master Chief in his helment all while looking super fine basked in an angelic blue glow... Erm... My point is this:
At the end of Halo 2, Master Chief communicates with Lord Hood from orbit as soon as he exits slipspace as a stow away in the Key ship Truth was in. So what does this tell us? Master Chief's armor has a badass radio communication device, I mean... talking to someone from hundreds of miles away using a radio integrated to your armor? That's some cutting edge tech there... So what does this tell us? Master Chief has good range on his radio...
Now combined with Cortana's intellect for managing systems, Master Chief's armor makes for one bad ass bullet proof walkie talkie
When Cortana says: "I'll drop the beacon but it will be a while before anyone finds us... years even..." Doesn't that give you the impression that they are pretty far away from anything? Master Chief's badass walkie talkie shoud've picked up conversation by now. Why? Now I'm no expert in communication protocol but when the UNCS orbial defense station picks up incoming "kilos" the first thing they attempt to do is communicate with them in order to grant or deny access.
The minute Master Chief and Cortana came out of slipspace they should've been bombarded by radio messages asking them to identify themselves (thats if they were in fact in proximity to a human inhabited planet like Earth or Reach)... But this did not happen... Why? Simple really... Because the planet orbit they ended up on was... not Reach...
Now "Time traveling Master Chief" treckies please archive this in your brain and assimilate this next part into that folder:
(Again... these are not direct quotes but I attempted to listen in to Halo Reach's trailer as accurately as possible)
Fermian RSO: Gamma Station, this is Fermian RSO, unconfirmed report of a slipspace
rupture
Gamma Station: Impossible, Check your source...
Fermian RSO: Reading multiple pings bellow the orbital defense grid (MAC stations)
Gamma Station: This can't be happening...
Fermian RSO: There's no mistake, its them...Winter contigency has been declared,
all units are mobilzed and ready
Bombardment of the planet and frantic dialouge start shortly after...
Acording to the dialouge, there were multiple enteties detected after the slipspace rupture. Master Chief had some great abilities but spliting into multiple bodies wasn't one of them (and Forward unto Dawn was only cut in 2 pieces) If that was Master Chief why didn't he use his kick ass walkie talkie to let his comrads know he was going into cryo sleep?
For all of you who so firmly belive that Master Chief time travels to Reach... If you ever had a remote chance to support your theory... Halo Reach's trailer is it... What Visual elements from the trailer can you use to back up your idea? After all that is where the theory came from in the first place right?
The purpose of this thread is not to attack anyone's idea's. I believe many others are wondering the same question: On what basis do you come up with a concept like that?
Who knows... Maybe the rest of us can be persuaded...
