Subject: Halo:reach...what could ruin it?

If it came out like Halo 2 with badly balanced weapons, glitches, unpolished A.I., unpolished collision detection, and texture pop-in everywhere. If the game requires multiple patches to fix things, and it still doesn't fix everything then the game is ruined to me.

Sounds like Gears of War 2

GOW2 is fine, it's MP is terribly implemented.

Two things that can ruin Reach, the inclusion of any time travel or plot hole to alter the already great story surrounding the events of the attack on Reach. The other is if Bungie tries painstakingly to please the mindless mob that wants nothing more than BR slayer. Those changes kill MP without reason.

Meh to the first part...BIG YES to the second.

Im not saying I would like time travel but Im not about to dismiss it either. I mean come on, the MGS series has had some VERY big stretches in it, and it still turned out amazing. Either way, Im sure its going to be a great game.

They really need to bring back the Halo CE Multiplayer. For some reason, things just felt right in that game. But honestly I think Reach is going to be a BIG departure for the Halo franchise. I know it is going to be an FPS, but I believe its gonna stray from the typical Halo formula. I would LOVE to see a slightly more realistic take on the gameplay. I dont want to rush head first into a group of 20 grunts, 9 jackles, and 5 elites(Yes I NEED elites, they are so much more "honorable" to fight.) and leave with nothing but a flashing shield. I want to see the grunts up close and feel like they are 5 feet tall. Not ants. I want to see the agressive side of the jackals and really instill fear in me when they raise thier shields. I (REALLY!!!!) want to see a Zealot Elite tower over me, plasma sword in hand and ready to slice me in half with that frightening wort, and insane mandibles. Yeah....THATS what I want to see.

Sorry Wall o text.

The same mindset that developed Halo 3 multplayer.

Well some of that may be difficult as Grunts are not imposing (to Spartans) and Elites do not tower of them either. But I do know what you mean. In CE I actually need to think about my approach and manage my weapons to give myself an edge. In Halo2 and 3 I just need a quick reaction time and a BR, maybe a shotty, but not necessary.

The time travel issue is a big one because it would seriously screw up existing plot-lines. The MGS series (sticking with your example) did no such thing, they simply drew spanning time lines together. There was no time travel, just clever writing. The Halo Universe is more than capable of doing the same, and they already have in the novels.

What i'm hoping for with this game is that they prove that this universe is a whole lot bigger than just MC. Don't get me wrong, MC is the man, but the Halo universe has some great characters in it, I'd love to see them get the attention they deserve.

Bolded 1: EXACTLY! I know that to a spartan, a grunt and an elite are not as much of an opposition as they are to marines, but it would still be nice to see them a bit...darker. Ive only read the first book a couple years ago, but from what I remember, even to a spartan, these enemies were frightening. Since when have you SERIOUSLY been frightened by a grunt? Hell the last thing I remember actually jumping out of my seat for was the the first time encountered the hunters.

Now im usually against a developer upping the gore and violence factor, because I never really see the use (Gears is a great example...WAY overly violent) but I think it would make the story and characters (The covenant/marines/flood ect.) a bit more excitment if bungie made the game a bit grittier. I know the novels arnt overly gritty, but still, throw some mud on that game and show that these creatures are mean, ruthless, heartless animals.
*Note I HATE games that just throw dirt on a game to make it look "better". Im not saying make the game brown and black...im saying make it a bit more mature"

Bolded 2 (Second paragraph): Oh no I completely understand the plot holes and such, but keep in mind, even though the books are GREAT backstory to the game, they are entirely separate. Bungie has said that the books have little to no baring on the games themselves. Weather thats the same case in this game or not, only time will tell.

Bolded 3 (third Paragraph): I completely agree, the more deep the universe the more back story for books, games, videos, and other media to explore. And more Halo is ALWAYS a good thing. As long as they keep the same quality thus far.

Actually in interviews it has been mentioned that the novels, specifically those written by Eric Nylund are up there with cannon. The games and books do not follow eachother word for word, action for action, but they do reflect on eachother.

I think that the worst thing that could happen is if you have to play as an a55 kicking pony.

  • 06.08.2009 4:21 PM PDT

Wait, are you an Astronomer.

What I don't want to see:

A)Time Travel- It never works as well as you think... look at the Terminator series, that mess has become so convoluted it's ridiculous. And by it's very definition creates plot holes.

B)The Same Style of Gameplay- The halo fps model has been copied so much it has gotten kind of boring. The first Gears was fun to play because it was different from the cookie cutter model. I know Bungie has the ability to impress me, so do it.

C)Master Chief being the PC- It was a great run, but I just feel that his story doesn't need to be fully elaborated on, I want to get inside the suit of someone else.

D) Same graphical art design- Reach is doomed, I want the mood of the game to reflect this through the music, lighting, and color tones of the game.

There's always an insult for me:
You lose: You're a bk, bad, etc.
You win: You're a tryhard, cheater.

XBL & the idiots who take video games (matchmaking) too seriously.

I'd say, being stuck on some form of elevator/gondola/confined path/etc throughout most of the campaign.

For MP:
-A class based game
-Perks
-Anything else dumb taken from GOW or COD that don't belong in Halo
-Unbalanced weapons
-Equipment. At all.
-A lot of asymmetrical maps and no symmetrical maps. Sanctuary and Midship from Halo 2 were awesome maps for slayer, bomb, ctf, and practically any other gametype imaginable. Maybe not zombies if that's what you're into.

For SP:
-Bad AI
-Bad story line. Ex. Time Travel
-Levels depending entirely on vehicles. Ex. Virtually impossible to complete a level without using a vehicle to get by like the level from Halo 3 with the hornet and the level from Halo 2 where you have to fly a banshee.

In General:
-Imbalance between vehicles and infantry. Ex. The Warthog is either a WMD or a death trap.
-New weapons that I will never use. Ex. Spiker.
-The Halo 3 AR.
-Well it wouldn't ruin it, Halo 2 glitches kept me entertained for hours while I would try to get on top of MP maps as well as find neat extra stuff in Single Player levels like climbing up and over buildings instead of underneath through the streets in that one level in Halo 2. While some of these ruined Halo 2 MP because people would do things like superbounce out of Turf with the sniper and/or hide, some of them weren't as bad.

That is all I can think of. Oh, no MC.

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

now that i think about it this thread has shown alot of fears...

here is a problem i have in halo3..

i spawn with an AR out in the open right infront of some one with a BR at long range... he has the gear to kill me easy but i don't have the gear to kill him..

or the useal spawning infront of a sniper out in the open...

I just want them to make the campaign epic, since CE theres been a deterioration in Bungies effort to make a captivating game and story.CE was the most emersive game Ive ever played due to the atmosphere, the story, the gameplay, the huge settings and the artistic beauty of it all and the music........I loved every minute of it.I actually felt like I was under attack,it was the only Halo that really felt like war where you were constantly on the defensive fighting for survival.I loved turning a corner to look upon a huge battle already taking place, fighting in the most amazing and diverse settings ive seen.Halo 3 was an excellent game but its campaign was a Major disappointment.I preordered the legendary edition, booked a week off work and drove 4 hours one way to pick up my copy on launch. This was going to be the most amazing Halo yet.It was the end of it all,all Hell was going to break loose in this one,its going to be total war,I thought.I thought wrong.Make it big, make it captivating, make it art, make it war, make it epic Bungie.

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

there was a thread earlier that said bungie take your time...

if you think about it... all we want is the best.. so baisicly bungie do your best...

our fear is bungie will cut corners and make the game like shadow run.. small and short..

people love halo so they want more of it.. the more they put in the game the better..as long as it is more of the right stuff.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Master Chief would ruin it.
So would all this crap about snowmobiles and katanas that won't happen.

  • 06.08.2009 7:39 PM PDT

I am king!!!

It'll be cool to see the other spartans (if theres any) or even the side of the marines, but I think more mature content would really be cool. The books portray the covenant better than the game which i always thought was kinda silly...

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

I don't want to join your group.

Time travel.

If time travel is in H:R, I'll do my best to convince myself that the campaign doesn't even exist, just like I do for about half of the stuff in the Star Wars prequels when I watch the original trilogy. I'm 100% serious.
