Does anyone even read these?

Multiplayer =/= Storyline.

I swear you people make me want to go on a mad killing spree sometimes.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

What do you mean "you people"?...

Johnson is just an alternate skin in firefight it has nothing to do with the events of the halo games it is just a fun costume.

Firefight is just a fun mode. It doesn't have to follow cannon.

Yep he could be dead and still be in firefight.

My memory of Halo 2's campaign is vague, but I'm going to take your word ans assume it's true. So what I think they are doing is allowing him to be in firefight because firefight isn't really part of any story. It's just like a multiplayer horde mode, so since it doesn't follow a story, they will allow Johnson to be in it even though he isn't in the actual story.

I think it will be weirder when four people who pre-ordered the game will run around using Johnson.

Because Firefight isn't supposed to make sense. It's supposed to be fun.

It does not maintain plot arch continuity, The Johnson helmet is just an option for more customization...and lulz.

Why not? Spartans in halo 3 multiplayer can wear ONI and ODST suits as well. Why wouldn't Johnson be able to appear in a multiplayer mode?

You are only as sharp as your knife

...uh...yea....we all know this. hes in firefight......nevermind...

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I'll just give the sensible answer:

I don't think Johnson will appear in campaign, logically it's impossible as he was indeed with John and Miranda over at Installation 05.
From what I've read, it's just in Firefight mode that he can appear. Which is strictly non-canonical.

this happens just after halo 2

Firefight is not part of the storyline. Is Horde a part of the storyline in Gears of War 2? I thought not.

Well... where do all these Spartans come from that keep coming back to life reanimated?

MatchMaking and Firefight aren't part of the linear story. They're bonuses. Additions.

He is the only one who could explain in such a few words, thanks.

firefight is a GAME, it has nothing to do with the story in the game. plus johnson is unlockable, he isnt meant to actually BE there. its a video game. what is akward is you actually caring about this.

Yep, Johnson, Miranda and the Chief are elsewhere dealing with Brutes and a handful of crazy Profits.

As for Firefight... Firefight is intended to play upon events which will occur during the single player story. Firefight offers greater context to the campaign experience.

The inclusion of Johnson should not be viewed as a toy one might find in their cereal box. The reason he is in this game, as a unlock-able Firefight character, should perhaps foreshadow additional reference points between these two (H2 & ODST) stories.

Bungie doesn't do 'cereal box' toys. With Bungie, there is a purpose to everything. Good question OP.

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?
Black Tower

it's just a promotional thing.
because johnson is a badass guy alright?
it doesn't exactly fit into the story : "4 ODSTs decided they would try and hold off as many covie forces as possible for teh lulz."
or elites and spartans teaming up to kill more elites and spartans.
