It's a damn game type that has hardly anything to do with the ODST campaign

Fire fight bears no significance to the story.
It is true, I would guess, that while playing in Firefight mode you will likely not learn anything new regarding the campaign. However, I seem to remember, while watching the events of E3, that one of the Bungie folks was talking about 8 minute Firefight vid (which they used for demos) as, perhaps, a battle which occurred during the campaign that you didn't take part in. So that by playing through such via the ODST FF mode you would gain insight into other aspects of the campaign.
There are a few key similarities between FF mode and the ODST campaign that should be discussed.
A) You won't face enemies, when playing in Firefight mode, other than those who are included in the HALO 3: ODST campaign.
B) You will fight in locations, when playing in Firefight mode, which are key to the HALO 3: ODST campaign.
C) Armor permutations, available for use when playing in Firefight mode, are unlockable only after playing in the HALO 3: ODST campaign.
I believe the inclusion of Johnson, in ODST FF mode, is a clue which has been previously overlooked. As for what it means... I have no clue.
