My point was that if the orbital MAC guns are outside the gravitaitonal field then the Covenant wouldn't have a problem jumping underneath them.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Not quite. Cortana described the difference between Covenant and Human slipspace technology. The Covenant didnt actually "rip" a hole in space, like Human vessels, and did not take much time at all to re-appear after the rupture appears. Almost instantly actually. Also, the words said in the trailer were likely rushed. Each thing that was said would likely have been said many minutes apart. Again giving the Covenant plenty of time.

I think you need to look up the definition of "orbital"

If in real time they were many minutes apart, then they would have had time. However, if the conversation happened exactly as in the trailer, then there would not have been enough time. There's no evidence to indicate a time gap between the lines however.

Other than the amount of time it would actually take for the people saying the lines to gather the information. Lets not forget this is a trailer, and a very common aspect among trailers is that they rush lines together very quickly, and often not even in the right order (Halo 3: ODST gameplay trailer is a perfect example).

Other evidence that the trailer did happen in fast forward is that by the end of the 30 second-ish trailer, the covenant was already glassing Reach.

I like your theory, it always felt like a sequal too me, especially since those images at the top of this forum don't really resemble any previously seen types of Mjolnir power armour.
If i didn't know better i'd thought the guy on left was an elite :P

Back to the thread; um, as much as i like your theory, we are forgetting you can't really trust the books to provide cannonical information for the game universe as well. Most of the first books have stated that hunters had spines. Last i checked Hunters were colonies of worm-like creatures. The Characters in the books were often different from their game counter-parts.

Only one book did horribly on the hunters, and that was The Flood. The 1 and ONLY Halo book by William C. Deitz. Eric Nylund did great, and he is the one we are referencing.

I agree sometimes lines are rushed, but in this case I don't think they are. The time it takes to search for large, active capitol ships is next to nothing. If they'd jumped under the orbital defences, they could have begun glassing immediatly. The orbital defences could not fire towards the planet, and the UNSC ships would need a bit of time to turn around in which the enemy could have thinned their numbers. Some could proceed then proceed to glass, whilst the others continued to destroy the fleet. Little over a minute from exit of slipspace would be needed to begin glassing.

At this point, unknown, but provides more evidence that this could be a sequel because of the number. There's other threads around about the mystery spartans.

Not too sound like stubborn -blam!-, but i will forever maintain that the books aren't always a good source of information on the games themselves.

I said before that I am not talking about large covenant ships. They would not cause pings so much as large clear reading. I am saying the Pings could be small ships, like Boarding Craft, or Seraphs swarming around, or Phantoms and Spirits heading straight down to the planet to drop off infantry (The Orbital Defenses would not fire at these, they would fire at the large ships. So all of these would easily slip through before the Human Longsword fighters launched.)

The small ships lack the power to glass a planet, and do not have the ability to slipspace jump. They would have had to be flown near by a much larger ship. Also, they are much slower, and can't get from the outer parts of a system to inside a planets orbital defences before defences can bu mustered.

That is true, but it is a great reference point to fill in the unknowns.

And in response to the Spartan numbers. In Fall of Reach it did mention Mendez being pulled back to reach to work on "The next batch of kids", this occured BEFORE Kurt's disappearance and the beginning of the Spartan III project, so these kids are Likely the next generation of Spartan IIs. Which would be Spartans 151-300, The Spartan in the trailer was #200 something, so it fits.

The Glassing of the Planet didn't occur until after The Covenant won the space battle. Those lines would have happened at the very start, before any glassing would have occurred. (The trailer was not in real-time basically. The picture showed the aftermath, while the audio played the beginning)

True, but it was said in ghosts of onyx that this second generation of spartan II-s never happened because of lack of funding, and lack of candidates. If they are Spatan II-s, then it must be post halo 3.

With the beginning of the Spartan III project, I highly doubt more Spartan IIs would be created later. Since the Spartan III project seems to have come to a close, I could only see a new batch of Spartans as being Spartan IVs.

And keep in mind, the UNSC also likes to keep secrets, lots of confidential secrets. The story for why no more Spartan IIs were created could have been a cover up to hide that they actually were working on them. Wouldnt be the first time the UNSC had something to hide.

Nice form. I agree with every thing, but I do have 2 questions

1. The game takes place after the events of Halo 3, when Reach has been rebuilt.
2. The game is based before the events of Halo: Fall of Reach, based around a battle on Reach against a previously unknown enemy.

1. After the third halo the covenant was destroyed. And their were no more remaining Spartans (except for master chief). in the trailer it said, " we have Spartans on the ground"

2.I agree with the second, except for the fact that they were fighting a previous army. According to the books the unsc was a war with the rebels.

Any way the main characters may not be master chief.

No Halo game has ever allowed you to campaign against human characters. And I am sure none ever will (I wish I could have killed Marines as the Arbiter in Halo 2, but "noooo". :P)

I'm sorry, but your theory has a massive flaw. Covie CAN jump both into and out of gravitational fields. They do this in halo 2. Also, in Halo First Strike, Cortana gets inside of a Covie ship, and discovers that the Convenient could jump directly into a planets atmosphere and bypass all orbital defenses. i could go pull a quote if you want proof.

True, but she was not there for the entire battle. Also, the trailer tells us we know the ending. How could we know the end of something that has yet to happen?
