I agree with you.Perhaps one or both of them took cover and survived.I think this event would be a great addition to the Reach campaign.Oh,and this is off topic, but I think it would be interesting if a future Halo game were to incorporate the story of Randall, who in the novel Ghosts of Onyx,Dr.Catherine Halsey states to have been one of the only Spartans to truly go MIA,and furthermore, the only Spartan whose fate is unknown. What would be cool is if he were serving aboard a UNSC ship, when they detected an anomaly in deep space. The Captain of the vessel (preferably called the "Bunker Hill") decides to push further into unknow territory and investigate. The ship ends up finding a Halo Ring (this is before Master Chief's exploits on Instillation 04,mind you) that would ideally be classified as Omega Halo.Thhe ship would send teams down to investigate, which would come back reporting nothing covenant related on the structure, and would retire to their quarters.A few days later however,Randall would awake to sounds of screaming as crew members are being ripped apart by the Flood, the likes of which was passed to the recon teams via parasites in the air.Randall fights his way to the hangar, and (along with several marines and ops personnel) escape to the surface of Omega Halo just as the remaining non infected crew aboard the Bunker Hill put reactor levels on full causing them to go critical and the ship to self destruct,so the flood could not gain control of the ship. This is merely the beginning, but there are endless plot lines you could take with this story.
