Subject: Definitely Time Travel

if you ever bothered reading the books, Reach was glassed by covenant, BUT in "First Strike" the Master Chief returns to find out that the entire planet was Not glassed and there were remaining SPARTANS in hiding.
- This fits perfectly into the tease trailer because they say:
1) "there is a space rupture" (which could be the portal MC comes through at the end of H3)
2) they mention in the trailer SPARTANS, let me emphasize the 's' (meaning more than one)
3) the pictue of the trailer has a group of 5 (there were a total of 5 SPARTANS in blue team when MC returned to Reach in "First Strike". And they each seem to have certain weapons or specialties, while the middle person has an AR. The MC was the most balanced and always had an AR and he was the leader, which is why he is in the middle!

-just a theory, leave comments

This would be a good time to point out that the US Government seriously did consider nuking the moon during the Cold War as a show of force. Project A119.

"A large explosion on the Terminator line would put the sun behind the mushroom cloud, making the explosion visible with the naked eye from Earth."

Then the US decided they'd just send in Neil Armstrong to land on it. Neil Armstrong - the one man on the earth that was considered a suitable replacement for a nuclear missile.

OP, if I had a chaingun...

Dude thats what I was hoping. I was thinking that would be awesome if the MC went back in time to Reach. It would be super dooper.

Btw I think he said it was a slip-space rupture. Not really sure what that is...but its suppose to be when the covenant teleport and attack reach. But maybe MC is in that teleport thingy too!

Do Not Hesitate, Show No Mercy, Not One Step Back.
Finish It.

Not time travel.

The teaser said there was a slipspace rupture below the obital defense grid. After the Covenant attack, there WAS no orbital defense grid. Also, MC was at Reach the first time around, so you don't need to tie yourself in knots trying to think of ways where you can still play as MC.

Also, Bungie has confirmed that this is a PREQUEL, if MC traveled back in time, then it would be a SEQUEL.

unfortunately i could also be very wrong because i just realized............... if MC came back in time to the beginning of the fall of Reach, wouldnt he do something different so that he doesnt repeat the whole process over again.
(and by "process" i mean ALL the books and games he is in)

Actually, some form if time travel does happen in FS. The Crystal -blam!-s the universe up.

slipspace is like what light speed is for starwars, or warp factor for star trekkies. its just a form of long distance speedy travel

OMG! Are you people serious!? For the millionth time...
NO TIME TRAVEL!!!!!

There is no room for debate. If you actually knew your Halo facts, it would be obvious.
Bungie has been on record as saying they don't like the time travel gimmick.

In First Strike, the crystal shard does have an effect on time, but simply by speeding up or slowing down. NOT REWINDING TIME! There is a big difference.

Master Chief was at the battle of Reach, just not on the ground. So stop trying to find ways to justify having MC at Reach.

Besides the obvious fact that Bungie and Microsoft have stated this as being a prequel:
link

In Halo: Reach, the blockbuster prequel to the Halo trilogy, experience the events that transpired on the planet Reach. Created by acclaimed developer Bungie, Halo: Reach will be available in the fall of 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360.

So for the love of god, PLEASE stop making these stupid time travel / "OGMZ!!!1 Reach is Halo 3 ending " threads.

Why is everybody insistent that Bungie could have possibly moved on from Master Chief, and that he is not going to be in the game.

I mean seriously, there is no time travel, just because it happened in I Love Bees, doesn't mean Chief is going to be in Reach.

Historia magistra vitae est

Slipspace is a number of intertwined dimensions used for speedy travel across large distances. A rupture, in particular, is a doorway torn in space by a ship travelling the Slipstream to reenter normal space. Think of them as ends of a tunnel that goes under the ground. Thinking of it as teleportation is completely wrong, as the travel is not instantaneous.

If you're still confused, try this: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Slipspace

As for time travel, to agree with a few hundred people on this forum, Slipspace has never had the ability to manipulate time. The only known reference for time manipulation was when a Forerunner crystal reacted to Slipspace, slowing time down so that the ship got to it's destination faster. This was not time travel. It was a form of reducing travel time.

So please stop with this time travel nonsense.

The Forerunner Crystal did cause time travel. MC&co transited from September 23rd to September 7th when they jumped from Threshold to Epsilon Eridani with the Ascendant Justice.

I don't remember that, and I've read First Strike twice. Can you please give the page number/chapter you found this on?

EDIT: Even if this is true, the crystal was destroyed.

The Forum Ninjas are asleep.

yeah... sorry but not time travel bro...

The covenant left reach partially unglassed because they wanted a forerunner artifact beneath the surface.

EDIT: Even if this is true, the crystal was destroyed.

The prophets still managed to get a shard of it. If I remember correctly, I do remember someone in the books saying that if the covenant were to get a hold of this crystal, it would increase their slipspace speeds.
