Based on the gameplay videos it seems you can reach Set 2 by playing for 20 minutes. That would mean:
Set 3 = 40 minutes
Set 4 = 1 hour
Set 5 = 1 hour 20 minutes
---
Set 10 = 3 hours

They played on Normal. What about Legendary? I think reaching Set 3 is about the best anyone can reach. 1 Set consists of 3 Rounds, and 1 Round consists of 5 Waves.

So if only Sets count in service records, maybe sets should be shorter. A la 2 Rounds = Set. That could also bring in the 5+2=7 again.

Afterall, the "maximum" Set could be 99 or 999 until the Xbox explodes. Why is Bungie so sparse with them? I rather see most people divided bethween Sets 20-60 than bethween Sets 3-5.

My point is that this seems to become more about the time you have on your hands than the difficulty aspect. It's like how all the records of Dead Rising Infinity mode are done by people who leave their Xboxes on. As far as I see reaching set 99 would require you to play for weeks. Impossible? Yes. Interesting? No.

I can see lots of people getting stuck on Set 2, 3 or 4 because of the lack of time or the lack of skill. It would be a lot more rewarding to occassionally manage to reach a higher level, like from Set 42 to 43.

Old School

to be honest it doesnt really matter, i mean. if your good enough you'll survive against that level of set no matter the time.

I'm a tad confused on what you are referring to when you say "set" All know is that firefight is made of rounds and waves. Multiple waves per round (I think 3 but not 100% on that) and after each round skulls switch up. A "wave" is the introduction of new covenant through phantoms. From videos I've seen people have made it into their second round with 10 minutes of play (which 10 minutes is your limit on firefight play at E3 instead of using the lives system I'm pretty sure). There is no maximum round but Bungie did say in their podcast that it is nearly impossible to get to round 99 and you should not expect to be able to play legendary right away.

5 waves makes a round, 3 rounds make a set. You can see the set number next to the round and wave indicators.

In all videos the players have reached 1.5 Rounds in 10 mins. I haven't seen anyone reaching set 2.

99 could very well be impossible, but as it is it seems reaching 20 will be impossible unless there are 4 good players who play on Easy and who have tens of hours to play at once.

Hardcore big boy war games require time commitments. Lose the kids and the job and get on my level, wussy.

Difficulty doesn't matter as the Covenant will keep rushing you so you just have to kill them as fast as you do on Normal. The waves will probably arrive as fast as on Normal.

Good point.

But in the end it doesn't make the point obsolete. As it is it seems reaching Set 3 on Legendary is pretty much the best anyone can reach, atleast it won't go much above 10. That means high difficulty to improve on. It can decrease the interest of "trying again to improve just a bit". Most people get stuck on sets 3-5 and no work gets them higher.

It seems funnier to have more flexible system. Being able to improve.

It's like how people complain anyone can reach level 50 in Matchmaking. Interest ends when you reach the top.

There might be an option to Save and Quit if you're playing single player. Like in Campaign, if you play single player, you can save and quit but that option doesn't work for Co-op.
Firefight might have a similar feature so you don't have to complete it in one sitting.

That is a little long. However I am not that worried about it.

That's another great point.

"Survival" mode shouldn't and usually don't have ability to save. But in this case, like with Dead Rising, it doesn't sound all bad. It's like playing and completing Pacman or Mario Bros, once you handle it all you need is time. Most people haven't completed them only because it takes so long. I always ended up intentionally killing myself because I was bored or had to quit. I don't think survival should have save option and that's why something should be changed.

I'm not all that worried either, but it seems very simple to tweak the system a bit and improve it.

the sets don't HAVE to be that long. it all depends on how you play.

for instance, if you take your time with each wave, and make sure no one dies (in other words, use strategy) then yeah, they'll be that long.

but if you go guns blazing and forget strategy, it'll probably go by quicker.

anyway, it doesn't matter to me how long they are. hell, the longer, the better.
