"Just because you a man among men doesn't mean your manly."
- Something I came up with when I imagined a nerd in a room full of fabulous guys.

Mabye I've been reading it wrong, but it sounds like you can only play as ODST's in co-operative (Barring team killing) online. Is there going to be a deathmatch or something, or do we only get to play as an ODST in story and a Horde knock-off? (I love me some Horde, don't get me wrong) I mean, what's the use of having the old pistol back if you can't get some epic pistol wars going?

Also, 60 bucks for a glorified expansion pack. Good deal if you haven't downloaded any of the maps yet, (Except thanks to MS being money-grabbers we had to get them months ago if we wanted to play on 90% of the game types, essentially ensuring that nobody gets the value for those) but for the vast majority of Halo 3 players (Who's going to get ODST without having already bought Halo 3 and all the maps) we're getting a stripped-down story mode, one new game mode (Which could have been emulated in forge with a bit of imagination), and three new maps. ODST suffers from the same pricing problem as Wars; it's a spin-off priced as a full game. There should be two versions of ODST released, the $60 one that comes with all of the multiplayer maps and a $50 (Although $40 would be infinitely more reasonable) one that doesn't.

*Edit* When I said it could be remade in forge I meant you could create scenarios. For example, red vs. blue, with the reds being ODST's. Essentially everyone would have one life. If the red's win then you open up the next scenario in which the blues would spawn with some powerups (To simulate skull effects), better weapons and/or even vehicles. Granted you could only get 12 enemies/blues onto the field at a time to attack the reds, so it certainly wouldn't be as epic and it'd be annoying to load up a new scenario everytime but the point is that the firefight mode isn't as earthshattering (And certainly not enough to justify a $15 price tag).

You can only play as an ODST in Firefight (Horde mode) and in the ODST campaign. There isn't any Team Slayer while playing as an ODST, just the campaign and firefight. I will have to agree with you about the pricing though, I think its well worth it for the people who don't have all of the maps (like me). For those who do, they are only getting half of what they are paying for.
Edit: As said in the post below, Microsoft makes the prices, not Bungie.

You do know that it's not Bungies idea to make the game $60 right?

They themselves said that they were surprised when it was said that it'd be $60

It's actually Microsofts decision to make the price change. They thought that Bungie was including enough content to make the price for the expansion worth the price of a full game...

(Bonus: ODST in fact comes with two disks. One with story/firefight and one with all the maps/forge/matchmaking.)

Multiplayer is the same as Halo 3 is with the addition of the new maps. Firefight is NOT a horde knock off. They are both Survival game modes which I believe I heard that marathon had a survival type mode (don't quote me on that). I think in the posdcast they said they started working on a survival mode a few months after Halo 3 way before anyone had every heard of horde mode. And no the closest you could come to survival in forge is infection but in that you play against people and not against AI that add skulls each round etc etc.

Sure the game is expensive but I really don't care I will still buy it. ODST has it's own campaign that I will no doubt be spending way more time in than the halo 3 campaign and firefight will probably keep me entertained for awhile. Those 2 combined will probably end up with me playing the game more than I already do now and then with the 3 new maps I will still play more.

Wars really wasn't an expansion and so it really didn't suffer a pricing problem. You can't compare 2 games 1 being fps and 1 rts even if they are from the same "universe". Wars had it's own matchmaking and campaign. Wars can't be called anything similar to an expansion which ODST is classified as. If you only bought the game for the 3 new maps then I have no sympathy for you in your pricing problem because it only stopped you from using 1 playlist that was really only used for achievements.

I'm not going to say I wouldn't like ODST to have 2 different versions for those who already bought the maps but I will say that it doesn't seem like it is a viable option for Bungie to undertake right now.

Yes, that's why i said "MS" (Microsoft), not Bungie.
Yeah, I know it comes with two disks, although I have to wonder why, it just seems like an easy way for me to sell my old Halo 3 (Since I've already finished the campaign on legendary there isn't much reason for me to keep it around).

I agree there should definitely be some kind of limited multi-player included with ODST.

ODST fights would be great with the new pistol

Halo: Reach Beta? That is multiplayer I believe. It is something that has value, so in terms it has some kind of multiplayer. So you get 3 new maps (10$) Campaign and Firefight (35$) as well as Halo: Reach Beta (15$)

screw multiplayer.

if you play the Halo games for just the multiplayer, then you're not a true fan.

the campaign mode is awesome, and (from the sound of things) plays much better than the previous games.

I'm still going to get it, partially because I DO like the Campaign (However, I almost never buy a game for it's single player unless it's 60+hour length since once your done it, your done it), firefight sounds like a decent version of horde (And it hopefully won't take 20 min to get a team only to have it lag like a who're), and partially out of necessity because chances are unless you download the maps or buy the game half the matchmaking are going to be blocked off.
My main problem is the fact that there are so many things that they SHOULD do, such as having matchmaking but with ODST's instead of Spartans (Heck, have Spartans instead of ODSTs for Firefight).
Hopefully they'll patch in something like that later.

A beta should be free. In essence we're getting paid with enjoying a game before it's out and they get to stress-test their servers. It sems like they're just looking for another bullet point to add to the list of "new" material on the back of the box, sorta like how people who bought Crackdown got a Halo 3 beta.
I bet the conversation went something along the lines of this...
"Okay, so we've got a new campaign."
"Yep."
"And *one* new game mode."
"Indeed we do."
"And we brought back the Halo one pistol as a replacement for the Battle Rifle but don't have game mode to let you shoot your friends with it."
"Great, the hardcores will love that... Now what?"
"Well... Ur... I know! Let's tack on a beta and add 15 dollars to the game price!"
"You, my good man, are a genius!
But that's just me.
