I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there were Spartan III's during the Battle of Reach. Do you think that the squad in the poster could actually be Spartan III's? They were notorious for teamwork and tactical, squad based combat. Anyone out there able to disprove this theory?

Erm... No. They did not participate in the battle, and didn't even exist at the time in the first place.

You're thinking of the planet Onyx. Completely different story.

Actually I believe they did infact exist, but they were not present at the battle just the same.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

No Spartan IIIs were present on Reach, Many Spartan IIs were there, but even the Spartan IIs didn't know about the existence of IIIs. So having them on reach would cause horrible plot conflictions.

Training of the Spartan III's began in 2536. It is possible that Spartan III's Gamma Company could have been on Reach at the time, but it is unclear. Though, they recieved their orders a few weeks after the battle of Reach. So, it is unlikely.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I knew Gamma had begun training before the Battle of Reach, that's why I was thinking it could be from them. But, I guess if Spartan II's didn't know about III's, than this theory wouldn't work out.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Keep in mind that the S-III's are a highly specialized division, i couldn't see Ackerson mobilizing them to save a dead planet. They were used for special operations against high profile Covenant targets, they were not a reaction force.

and how!

If Spartan III's were ever to be on Reach they would be on a long since glassed planet devoid of life.

They didn't participate that we know of and they most certainly DID exist at this time.

Alpha company was put into service around 2537

Gamma company graduated in 2551.

The battle of reach took place in 2552.

They could be around, it's unlikely... but they could be.
