I just watched over 10 videos of ODST and I was surprise to see that the Brutes have an energy shield.
How is that explained?

Just send me a FR if you want to play.

I play any playlist, and most customs, unless your version of infection sucks.

the forums aren't really a place where a whole lot of people will know.

if knowledge is power and power corrupts, isn't knowledge therefore dangerous?
Black Tower

woah, brutes have like... energy shields.
that's impossible man, they didn't have it in halo 2 but did in halo 3.
it couldn't possibly be part of the coo, or they heavy armored these guys, they definatly aren't on their enemies homeworld, where they have almost every disadavantage or anything.

it's because of exactly what i just posted in bold.

Actually, is more like a magnetic barrier that hold the armor in place.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite airstrike.

There may be some evidence in the books, however I can only guess that the Brutes left behind to hold New Mombasa had advanced/ prototype armour, and due to time/ logistics constraints, not all Brutes could be outfitted with shield generators come the Sangheili Genocide. A similar story may be behind why the Brute Plasma Rifle was never seen in general combat again; it's too hard to make, field and maintain compared to normal Plasma Rifles and Spiker Rifles.

I asked this awhile back. I was just thinking Bungie did it to make it feel like we were fighting elites i guess.

I was under the impression that when the covenant arrived at Earth they were unaware that it was our homeworld?

it certainly seems like the brutes have more elite like shields in ODST

i saw someone shoot a bunch of automag rounds into a brutes head and it's power armor didn't fall off

STBY(sucks to be you)

http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/338368/Group/GroupHome.aspx Join us, stop them.

Fact: we dont care, It makes them harder to kill.
Fact: Harder tangos = more fun!
Fact: Its not like they are on their home world where they have the comfort of knowing that they will get their arms riped of by each other.
Fact: If they didnt where armor, Then It would be Ten Times easyer to kill them, ONE rocket round would do the trick.
Fact: I DONT CARE!
Fact: I am now grining like an evil guy at the screen...

no, they just didn't expect it to be filled with humans (go figure. -blam!- prophets and their nonsense)

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Brutes always had energy shields in Halo 3. They just weren't as visible up until ODST where the shield is much more apparent for the players sake since he's going to die faster.

No problem. I can't explain why the Brutes' power armour is made out of tinfoil and soap however.

It's not a shield it's a like the spartans, their shields flare when being shot

The last man on Earth sat in a room, there came a knock at the door.

Service Record

People asking along the lines of "Did you bother to pay attention in Halo 3?" need to take a big gulp of their own medicine.

In Halo 3 the Brutes have power armor that can recharge, but only if it's still intact.
From what I've seen in ODST, the Brutes shield can recharge while their armor has been completely blasted off (by say a plasma pistol).

Now I'm willing to take a swig of my own nasty cough syrup if someone can prove me wrong.
