Why would Hunters have ranks anyways, they're idiots and they can only fight.
not true they are smart enough to pilot the scarabs and they each hunter is made of a colony of worms a higher colony could be a higher rank

Realize how stupidly a scarab moves around?

Blue gold blue gold blue gold blue gold... blue gold blue...:O

I think it's gold. Like some say the Hunters under the sun on The Ark are still perfectly blue. Even the shadowside is golden.
That lighting effect seems really overdone if he really is blue. I can't remember having any guy in any game turn golden because he's under the sun.

Sunsets give much more of a stronger lighting.

its just a new type of shading there using using in the new game they did in on the Jackals aswell and plus the sun is rising which gives the characters (from what ever a angle) a shiney glow

I think someone said that Bungie commented about Golden Hunters in the latest podcast. Did not listen to it myself, 2 hours of talking doesn't exactly appeal to me.
But the Golden Hunter is either an easter egg in the trailer or a really a new type of Hunter... NO lighting effect can make a BLUE Hunter completly golden... unless someone has messed up things badly...

Sunsets do actually make things very golden. Look in the background; It's a sunset.

Four shots, four kills, reload, repeat. This is the work of a sniper.

I'm pretty sure that is the sun's reflection.
If not, HOLY CRAP THAT'LL BE AWESOME.

Doesn't explain how they look golden on shadow side too. And that in Halo 3, Hunters are blue no matter how much light shines on them. Sure ODST has slightly better graphics.. but not that much they'd make much difference.

Oh, could someone who has listened to the podcast tell timestamp when the guys in the podcast talk about Hunters? Or Firefight for that matter.

Halo 3: ODST actually has a different shading system...

It has? Well then is should also "change" the color of ofter enemies a lot more... and projectiles and grounds and other stuff. Doesn't seem to be doing that. Checking again though.

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

For those who say its just the "reflection" because of the sunlight.

Ok, then why aren't any of the other Covenant or ODSTs gold from the light then?

Indeed, there ain't any other color "changes" other than the Hunter.
Needler is still purple, Grunt's methane tank is still red.

What shows better?
Light on dark, or light on light?

Bad answer. Brutes are also the same color as Hunters(the blue minors/Captains). With about the same hue of blue.

Look at 1:10, the ODST. 1:23 has somewhat of a golden shine. 1:24. 1:28.

Also notice: They have similar lighting in the background as the hunter.

Look at the point where this golden Hunter is seen. On a high rez HD video.

1:19, Jackals on the SAME (prettty sure, the lighting is too similar) map. They look normal yet the Sun is setting.

1:20-1:21 Golden Hunter. The needler is STILL purple, Grunt's methane tank is STILL red (if the lighting would turn Blue to Gold, then Purple would change similarry, same with the red tank). On the right, you can see a dead Hunter on the ground and it's Golden in color.

The ODSTs do have a slight shine on them, yes, but this doesn't occur with the Jackals for example. And you can't turn the matte blue color Hunters have to completly gold with lighting really.

IM A LEGIT 16

Well, I agree fully that this is a golden hunter. It makes sense that hunters would at least have a armour with higher protection or more important missions. And the video is irrefutable.

However.

Why would the covenant waste something so valuble against such weak troops (meaning the odst)? Even a regular hunter was something valuble, an important resource that was not thrown about willy nilly. Why not instead send these gold hunters to stop the demon(MC), which the covenant saw as a much greater threat? I mean, even the term demon signifies that the covies really start to shake when they see the spartan is on the way.

So why throw such a precious resource at something the covenant doesnt even view as a threat?

This, is why I think that this isnt just going to about capturing new mombasa.

Something big is going down in New Mombasa, and these Hunters are just another sign of it.

Oooooooooor.

Bungie didn't think of a high ranked Hunter for Halo 3, and thought it would be cool to put it in ODST.
That's the most likely reason...
Also, Hunters aren't so scarce that they are considered a precious resource. They can spare a few for an invasion, especially since ships usually have Hunters.

Anyway, I think the worms that make up Hunters can have high ranks, but usually not in Hunter form.

Well there is this rank thing... Covies, all the species there, show rank with the colors.

Scarabs are "Hunters", Lekgolo too... and likely higher rank. But that doesn't mean there couldn't be ranks within Mgalekgolo, the Hunters.

And there is no Flood in ODST, so new ranks for old enemies is an easy way to add "new" and more different enemies.

But you have to remember that jackals are different colors. They aren't nearly as dark as hunters. And the left side of the grunt methane tank is very pale... And the needler, is much to small to even say anything about.

But a shading effect would affect all the things, even the weapons. SIZE doesn't matter here.

I admit the tank is pale BUT it's definetly red. The lighting DOES affect to things in map (i think it's Security Zone) BUT you have yet to prove a Blue Hunter CAN turn to GOLD Hunter in such lighting.

Do you not want more Hunter ranks in ODST? (You can see a normal Blue Hunter too in the trailer) I don't care but more variety is better naturally..

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

It doesn't look like lighting, you can see Covenant patterns on the armour which aren't present on those we normally see. Who says there isn't an Honour Guard Hunter?
Very unlikely as the Sangheili were still Honour Guards then but anything's possible.

If it's that bright, why does the grass look green and all the other colors so natural too? If blue really turned gold due lighting, YOU'D SEE THE EFFECT ON ALL COLORS. Naturally material and reflectivity affect this but the change would be noticeable.

3% Of my kills are from the PhatWanker ;)

Huh, looks interesting. Every other alien has color ranks, why not Hunters?
