Well there are many theories to what the game's story will be, a lot are far fetched claims and what not. I have read all the books many times over, and I know that the game will be telling the story of the battle that a majority of the Spartans died from. Its the battle were John lost many of his family and the closest thing to home he ever had. John mite be there at the beginning, depending on how they start the game (because he is at halo for a majority of the story of Reach). So it will follow the other Spartans, there battle on the surface and so fourth. AND there are battles before Reach yes but Reach can make a full game, maybe even two

117's family is on sigma octanus IV I think, not reach.
but I guess you meant "new" family, spartans.

Yeah. He says in the books that the Spartans are his family

Wrong. The game culminates on reach. Note that the trailer says "From the Beginning, You know the end."

Obviously that says that we've known about how this will end ever since the first Halo game. The Spartans die, Chief survives and fights on Halo.

But we don't know how they got there apart from the books. This is what the game will explore, the war against the covenant in the pre-halo days culminating with Reach.

The battle of reach itself wouldn't be able to sustain an entire game unless you made things a tad bit rediculous. Much easier to dip into the un-narrated years before the battle or reach and invent battles for the spartans to play through in campaign.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

More stuff happened during the Battle of Reach than the Halo event, there is plenty of content to fill a game with.

thats very true. i read the books too and not all the spartans died on reach. in fact i wouldnt even say they died. bungie could easily make a huge story about the defensive campaign on reach that goes on.
