Subject: Drinol and Engineers, please

Many Halo fans have wanted to see these creatures in a game for a long time. If you don't know what either of these are, they were both creatures described in the Halo universe but scrapped from Halo: CE and all subsequent games.

Drinols are massive tank-like Covenant used to destroy vehicles. Engineers are the creatures that repair Covenant technology, and even though they don't fight, they could even be implemented as an easter egg.

Halo: Reach presents a great opportunity to incorporate them. Opinions?

Spinning a plate on a stick is impressive, but if you try to spin three at once then you'll just end up digging porcelain out of your face.

What purpose would an engineer serve?

Dude I don't care and my grammer is perfect.I used "Big", as you recall it to mak is specific."to not do...",is incorrect beause "do" is present tense/perfect(or future) when it was a past tense.

Ooh, and blind wolves!

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

New enemies altogether would be cool.

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

Two species, both useless.

Engineer: Wow. A pink, floating blob that fixes things. Okay, so maybe you could have it fix vehicles, but seriously, would that really be useful? If they make the game, they won't be targets, they'll be in cutscenes and running around the battle field doing nothing. They won't try to kill you, as they are Forunner constructs.

Drinol: Are you seriously out of your mind? Why do you alo: CE. Or Halo 2. Or even Halo 3 for that matter? Oh, I know! Because they were an idea, nothing more and a bad one at that.
They where removed not because of time restraints but because Bungie realised they'd be really aweful opponents.
Come on, essentially they'd be the equivilent to the Beserkers from GOW and hell, they didn't even turn up in GOW2 because people hated them. Just don't...

Read my post about the Drinol and thats essentially what I'm gonna say about the Blind Wolf, or any other creature who never made it.

Nothing is better than gaming through the day, into the night, then back into the day. It's like when you finally push that power button you feel like you've accomplished nothing, but at the same time, you can't stop smiling.

Wouldn't really make sense. Reach was glassed before Halo 1, so there really can't be new enemies from a story standpoint.

  • 06.08.2009 8:48 PM PDT

Why So Serious?

I would love to see many of the forgotten races of the Halo series make an appearance. It would be quite interesting.

I don't understand your hostility towards these concepts...

First, I never said the Engineers had to be enemies. In fact, on a few occasions, Engineers help Chief by repairing his weapons and armor in First Strike. Therefore, they could help you during or after a battle. In answer to your question "Would Engineers fixing vehicles be helpful?"... well yes, duh. How would that be a bad thing?

Also, you can't compare Drinols to Berserkers. Berserkers and blind and stupid, and combine that with GOW's awkward gameplay and you get a bad experience. You consider them a bad idea and your only logic to back that up is an enemy from a completely different game? That's pathetic.

Drinol are just a remake of the Hulks. Didn't fit in Halo too well. Besides, you already have the Tank form, pretty damn similar.

EDIT: Oh, how silly of me, of course you've never played Marathon.

True, but Reach does not get floodified, and therefore Tank forms will not be in it, and neither will Flood at all. This leaves a lot of room open for new enemies.

It's called "Cortana".

You can't say Tank forms are a bad enemy just because they're in a bad level. Perhaps you'd be happier if they didn't mutate into other forms every eight seconds. So come on, are they good enemies or not? Provide an argument...

We got marines in the game, they aren't so different.

Well from a story standpoint, they aren't new enemies. In Fall of Reach, Chief sees an Engineer even before the battle on a different planet, so canon-wise they're not new. Gameplay wise, they are. And as I said before they don't even have to be enemies, they could repair things for you or even heal you in rare instances like in Halo Wars.

Why the hate people? Both could be an effective part of game play....

Background. What were the point of the tiny sentinels in Halo 2, the bugs, birds, and bees? They are just cool background characters to help flesh out the game.

  • 06.08.2009 9:49 PM PDT

I wish I was still legendary.

I can see a Drinol, but I'm not sure about it. Only really visible as part of a cinematic, or something you find dead, or something fought when defending a building (although that would rip off GoW2, defending the COG base against 3 Brumaks).

However, something interesting: Frankie said the HW vehicles are now Canon, and will definitely pop up in other Halo games. I think Reach MIGHT include locust, for the mining of castle base - cheaper then scarabs, more sustainable beam, move faster/move precision, much less charging their lazor...

Background filler, and perhaps to provide some upgrades for your weapons and stuff.

They could fix our broken down vehicles. They're not strictly sided with the Covenant.
