Okay so logically i think that since this happens before halo 1, we will have the same health system as Halo 1 because of the armor at that time? even for multiplayer?

Please i liked that system and others do others don't.
(this is if you're playing as a spartan)

If you like the Halo: CE health system then you'll love Halo 3: ODST.

NO! That ruined Halo 1 IMO. (Not ruined... but you know what I mean)

You shall burn for your heresy.

But seriously, Halo:CE's health system is what made its campaign way better than Halo 2 and Halo 3 IMO.

Halo 1's health was kind of useless, because if you lost all of your shielding, you were bad. I like how the shields regenerated very slowly, however.

That was the point, you couldn't engage like you would in Halo 2 and 3, you had to choose your battles and use guerilla tactics(Plus, it was fun in multiplayer). Which is why I'm glad ODST is implementing that system. I really hope they implement it in Reach because your fighting alongside with four other Spartans anyway and it would be a good way to balance gameplay.

EDIT: In Combat Evolved, your shields played a very important role because you die in a couple of shots if your shields are down.

Yes, bring it back. This is before the Mark VI armor was available, which means that the automatic medical treatment cannot be present in the game. Which means that logically, there should be health packs.

Lol, what multiplayer?

The only way you could play against poeple is if you play on LAN, or use something like XBConnect.
You do know that there was a PC version of the game, right?

And splitscreen does count as multiplayer.

Or if you played the PC Version...

Other than that, I think that would be a good idea, having the old health system. It would make sense at least.

Why So Serious?

No need to worry. Bungie will take care of us and make us happy.

  • 06.08.2009 9:37 PM PDT

Maybe they can make some sort of custom game option yes?

I say it should be the shield and health system because this is before Mark VI armor.

Gamespy allowed for multiplayer play in Halo 1 for the xbox.

With a variable health system, the game becomes more challenging. If you have two health bars, you constantly need to approach situations differently. If your health is low and you cant get to a med-pack, you may play more defensively until you can. If your health is full, it may cause you to be more daring in a situation and attempt to take out those with lower health.

Personally, I love it. It adds more depth to gameplay and switches up the norm. I was a big fan of it in Halo CE and it added something on the map that needed to be controlled, but that was also instantly used. It creates a different balance on maps.

Most maps have areas that you want to control due to lines of sight, etc. Other areas are better because a power weapon spawns there. However, with Halo:CE it adds in areas that can give you a boost, similar in the way Overshields and Camos do, but it may be in a less than advantageous location. It shifts up control.

Health is kind of a wash for me. I mean it does kinda blow when you theoretically get a guy down to "1 red" (the expression I used in Halo 1 for one health bar) and then his shield comes back and he's good as new. More importantly though, I don't think you should be able to jump off of a cliff way high up, or exit a banshee in the sky and not die. I liked that realism element from Halo 1. Plus it made Hang 'Em High-esque maps a bit more skillful, because you couldn't avoid incoming fire by jumping off the edge......

Agreed. Being forced to think, along with being punished for bad tactical actions, ruined Halo 1.

Phoenix is dead, long live Phoenix!
Is it?

I'm going to reserve my judgement for after ODST.

Look at all the biggest shooters for the last 3 years. Crysis, CoD, GoW, Halo.

They all have regenerative health systems, it seems to be the way forwards. Even newer versions of older games such as Medal of Honor Airborne and Far Cry 2 have partially regenerative health systems.

I don't think the consumer base wants to go back to a system of just having 100% health and it being hard to replenish.

This is because people don't want to think tactically across the whole mission anymore, they're happy to take each engagement as it comes, not worrying about losing all their health as it'll just regenerate.

I have to say Halo CE had it just right for me: Bar based health backed up with a shield, It was effectively half rechargable but if you went past that half you got punished. It also meant you could never go below like 50% health, meaning you didn't get those frustrating situations where you had to crawl through half a level with 1% health avoiding being shot once.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Halo 1 health system blew.

Halo 2 & 3's system caught up with all the other games that dont use health packs.

Keep it the same.

NOOOOOO the Halo CE health was the worst, because it would be harder to go on sprees and get mulit kills because once your health is down you have to get a health pack to regain those little bars under the shield icon so it blowed so much. So once again NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
